Had a FL2 loaner over the weekend that was fitted with a sat nav. It is very different from the D3 one and I noticed that it comes with 3 DVDs. The 2 that were left in the case in the glovebox covers european countries so I assume the one that was in the unit was a UK specific disc. It was certainly more detailed than the D3 version and the voice commands were more specific. For example "In 1 mile, take exit 1, M55 toward Preston" and no more "beep" when you got to a junction, madam satnav says 'take the exit' . The map also displays no-entry symbols on roundabouts to stop you going the wrong way up a dual carriageway presumably. A bit OTT realy.
So, a question
Is the FL2 satnav compatible with the D3's unit i.e. will the FL2 satnav discs work in the D3 Now an ex-D3 owner after 7 happy years. Miss the car but not the big bills

The D3 satnav is really old hat now TBH ...we have to remember that it's 6 years since the model came out...therefore it's probably 8 years old if you take development into account. The Freel2 and D4 are more up to date but we are already seeing the likes of Google Earth \ Maps UI starting to find it's way into hi -end Audi Merc's ....it's a shame they can't allow for easy mid-life upgrading though.21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

It's about time LR got to grips with their C**p Nav. I have the D3 with 2010 disc, and my father has a FL2 HSE (2009) with 2009 discs. They are both hopeless at routing as has previously been said on this forum, and if it didn't come with certain spec models (as ours did) it would be an absolute rip off!
Now, compare that with my mother's Nissan Note. It cost a third of the price of the FL2 HSE, but the sat nav is spot on, the phone bluetooth works well, and the ipod is controlled by the touch screen, where it displays track names, albums etc, etc.
Come on LR, get into the 20th Century and then consider getting into the 21st with everyone else!

I'd agree that the LR looks good, but if it doesn't work properly................
I wouldn't have the Navara (I personally don't like the looks of any 4X4 on the market at the moment other than LR products), but eventually my head may rule my heart. Before the D3 I had a late Rover 75 with DVD sat-nav upgrade, which was a BMW system. That worked by rotating knobs etc, but when the destination was fed in at least it went the best route generally. That's where the LR really makes me angry. If others could do it years ago, why can't LR now?

At the risk of getting shot down... On the D4:
- Routing seems fine to me. Sensible and not too wierd. Choice of (3) routes provided and good commands (detailed) Certainly no worse than BMW and does full post codes.
- Bluetooth seems to work fine on several different phones used and includes phone book syncing.
- ipod is controlled by touch screen and displays track names, albums etc - no cover art though (and why not, they are embedded in the track)
So perhaps LR have got into the 21st century with the newer models. But I accept it doesn't mean it's frustrating that there is no hope of core upgrade for D3 or indeed D4 as it ages. I can't help thinking / hoping that next generation devices will / should be cloud based and updateable (but hopefully not completely reliant on a network connection...) Might get cheaper by then too. Dream on.
