Fuel guage not reading correctly |
|
Hello all !!
my fuel guage only appears to go up to half full even when the tank is full on my diesel discovery 3 54 plate
it does move up and down in relation to what is in the tank so the needle is not stuck... but it never ever reads full even with a full tank
It did one day last week go up to the top of the guage and i thought it had fixed its self but now its at half way again with a full tank !!
is there a sender in the tank wih a float on reading the level, or is it done witha computer reading the equivelant of fuel specific gravity .
Does any one know what to change ?
Also could it have been caused by landrover re setting a computer when the sunroof got stuck, and needs re calibrating or is it all less complicated than this ?
Regards
Glyn

It may be the wiring to/from the sender has been damaged as it's not that well protected so off-roading and even rodents can get into it. Equally likely that one of the senders in the tank (there's two I think) has probably come adrift - they are a b r to get at to fix as I understand they came to LR already fitted inside the tank. Ours went kapput at the time that D3 tanks were unavailable (manufacturer went bust I recall) so we just to had to live with it. We won't bother now as we got have used to running it on the trip meter.
Search on +tank +sender for more info
