I recently bought a copy of 'What Car?' and looked at the residual values, where a percentage of the new cost is given after three years of use and an average of 12k miles a year. A Disco4 GS is given as 48%, which is quite good.
So why can't I buy a three year old D3 of similar spec. with 36k miles for £17,800 ?? Make the most of this life, you may not have a Landy or skis in the next one.
2xS3, 1xD1, 3xD2, 2xD3, 2x110, 2x90TDi, 4x90V8, 4x90TD5.
Now: Jetta 2.0 TDi DSG, D3 auto gold.
That's the wife's toyboy.

its all about supply and demand. if you look at a lot of the main dealers nobody has much. i also saw the price of D3 go up by 2k in the time i was looking. this was all to do with not enough cars to supply the demand so they can ask more of a premium for them.

might i suugest you keep yer cash in yer pocket for a few more months, shed load of vehicles are going to be off loaded in the auction houses, bca blackbushe are open this sat afternoon to recieve 300 vehicles from ONE vendor alone, I've shifted loads of vehicles this month to various sites around the uk, at some point these will be comin thru on to dealership forcourts.
Ps saw a very nice d3SE on 58 plate arrive at blackbushe on thursday, 16k miles in black with black leather, not a door dent in sight, very nice

Chatting to the sales guys while mine was in for service the other day, they said they had one D4 in the showroom, a couple more due in November and that was it till goodness knows when - that's why s/h prices are so high, and why there are no deals to be had. Looking at LR approved used, my spec D4 is going for more than I paid for it new a year ago, and the local non-franchised place is pushing out a D3 similar to my old one for 2k more than the main dealer put mine up for at trade in time.
So if, as Character implies, a big fleet were about to offload a bunch of vehicles (3 year replacement cycle or something like that?) it'll make a bit of a dent in the used prices - but don't know for how long!

Character, Can you drop one off, please? Yep, I know what it's about, but it's very annoying. In March 09 when prices were very depressed, I bought a D3 and sold it in Sept. 09 as SWMBO wanted an auto, both prices were exactly what Parkers had given me for current private purchases. Admittedly, I made a small profit, BUT, a dealer bought it and immediately put it on sale for £5k more than he gave me for it.. Make the most of this life, you may not have a Landy or skis in the next one.
