I reckon Filos method is the way to go for the future, much cheaper than paying someone else, so you can afford to do it more often and still be better off.
People always make out gearboxes are scary and are to be avoided at all costs.

thanks for the original write-up from Filo and the follow ups from others, gave me the necessary guts to try it today:-) Remembered to faste the oil tube to the bucket to avoid any spill, and it was no problem to fill up using a large syringe type pump.

also, why people choose upper pipe not lower pipe of transmission oil cooler line? I recall that upper is receiver while lower is the one which pushed by the transmission engine towards radiator

Well done.
I can't work out what this is.
Must be a container with pipe tied to it
The top hose is much easier to get at.
Note the supply/return are reversed on diesel/petrol

Oh, yes, its a bucket, which as according to Filos great write up it connected to the top hose entering the oil cooler. Noticed only now that the pic is somewhat ambiguous regarding where the hose comes from. Thought the cable ties were worth a picture as several in the thread have stated what mess a loose hose can do
I used a 15mm external diameter clear plastic hose - this connected nicely to the top hose (using a 9 mm socket a connector) as as well as to the oil cooler later during fill up.'06 Disco 3 TDV6 HSE

15mm external hose diameter to be connected to both oil cooler part on radiator side and oil cooler line to/from transmission side?

yes, I used the same type of hose to fill the oil cooler as well as to connect to the oil pipe for the initial draining.'06 Disco 3 TDV6 HSE

I have used Filos method several times when changing oil in my old D3 (thanks Filo!). I now have a 2011 6-speed, 3.0 D4. Has anyone tried this method with such a D4? Shouldn´t really be different or..?

Have the same setup as you.
Almost the same process, but our cars have a different oilcooler from the D3.
Haven't got the time yet to look where it is exactly.

8 speeders are different apparently due to a thermostat in the oil cooler system.

Today I have done the first part of the flush on my D4 2010.
Here's how I did it.
1.Remove the plate under the oilcooler
2. Disconnects the pipe that comes from the transmission (oil flow)
3 Secure it and put a pan under, and start the engin and let it run, I stopped when the steady stream stopped. About 4 liters. 20-30 sec.
4. Conect what ever yoy are using to pump the new oil in on the pipe to the cooler.
