Any reasons not to buy a manual?
Ok guys, new here (posted in hello thread)
Looking to buy the wife a discovery, we need a very large family car, 4 kids!!
Have been looking at auto or a month or so, but I've found a good deal on a 05 manual. lowish mileage great spec.
So is there any major reason not to by manual, she has a manual car now so no probs for here.
Cheers

Welcome
check for clutch slip (expensive job)
Otherwise they are fantastic in manual or Auto.... manual is slightly quicker off the mark (if you're that way inclined) and "can" return a higher mpg (again, if you drive it so)
The 6 speed box is a joy to be honest
Auto was an extra hence slightly higher 2nd hand residuals.57 RRS TDV8

Some say manual gears are best. The vast majority are auto, so a manual will be a rare commodity, especially in high trim level.
Its down to personal preference. Some early manuals eat their clutches very early on, so it might be worth investigating whether it has ever had a warranty job on the clutch.

Don't want to tempt fate, but I have had my manual from new 55 plate and just hit 50k and it has been faultless, and I think you get slightly lower speeds in low range giving that little bit more control when playing also mpg a little better with the manual. As for the handbrake its not a problem but would guess the auto set up is better for hill starts and towing. So feel your boots and what ever you buy your love it! Wanted D4s non runners pm for competitive price.

Mobile or workshop,PM for details.
The auto apply can be easily disabled. Was one of the first things i did with my faultmate.
And you can easily force it not to apply in the situations where it would normally do so automatically, should the urge take you.

Towbars were optional even on a HSE. Cheap & easy to fit, often available here or on fleabay, electrics supposed to be easy to fit.
Good job chosing an auto, they are brill and great for us lazy bones that dont want to wear out our left foots!!
