Honest John (Saturday Telegraph motoring columnist) recently reported a case concerning a 30,000 mile D3 having a loud brake squeal from the n/s rear. This was fixed under warranty but only after the owner threatened to take the case to VOSA.
The problem appears to be caused by the old style pads not retracting from the disc and is fixed by fitting the latest design pads, unless it is left too long when a new disc is required, or the whole thing seizes and ....
I have had exactly the same problem and suspect that it is quite widespread?

Please reply to this thread or pm me if you have had this problem. If you haven't but have a D3 with old style rear pads that have done only 30,000 miles then be aware, it could be you next!

Had done mine ages ago by myself. When I read on here the same symptoms, I always say its the PADS

ok, I will amend, I suggest to look at the pads, maybe I was lucky and correct with my own diagnosis. Did check the pistons carefully and looked good at the time.

Nope, well yes
My rear pads were original Build, and were low. The pads wern't that low but low enough coupled with cack on the piston stopping the retracion.
I simply stripped and got a can of brake cleaner, make sure everything was spotless then reassembled with liberal amounts of copaslip on the rear of pads and sliders.
Been a year n a half and alls well at the back, the front is the issue now, big wobbles

The amount of Disco 3's that I have serviced, i would say easily 90% of them have had seized rear pads...
Would advise anyone who maintains their own car to strip and clean at least once a year, or at least get it done when it comes to service time...My D3 Build Thread
