When they sent some to me, they were in a 8" x 10" x 12" medical polstyrene box... if they go to that same effort for all customers, I can easily imagine it will cost that much to pack and post.
For more recent purchases, I googled the part numbers and found cheaper alternatives (this was for the LF240s, but the principle applies). The same bulbs, I think, are used in things like lcd projectors, and prices can vary significantly.

I think i have found the same ones on ebay for £1.99 plus £1.55 packaging for upto 10.
considerably cheaper, but not sure they will be as long lasting ! Duncan
