Low Power Warning = Alternator will die and other lessons
Hi All
New to disco3 ownership having just bought a 2006 HSE with all the trimmings. Thank god for this board. Within the first 3 months of ownership:
1. Had the loose nut for the gas strut in the boot. Saw the post and thought what about mine. Lo and behold hanging on by a thread... lucky save
2. Car started jumping out of drive - turns out the little joint underneath was full of muck restricting movement - fixed it myself (cheaper to buy a three ton jack and stands than take it to the dealer)
3. Low power light as I was plugging the ipod into the aux jack. 1 week later, back from holidays and I had a veritable new year's eve fire display of warning lights and noises until the car finally stopped and the alternator signalled it's surrender with a smell of burning and some whisps of smoke
4. LR service - 3 weeks in and still waiting for the replacement alternator....
DESPITE all of this we've been missing our D3 like nobody's business - apparently the alternator has arrived so it should be back for tomorrow.... yay!!!!!
Now all we need to do is find the extra 30k to buy a brand new one - anyone want to buy an old alternator
Cheers
Neil

Thanks for the welcome!
We also had the smoke from under the bonnet in the winter but again, with the help of this forum worked out I had a little oil burner under the hood as well as the engine - just need to work out how to cook sausages with it...

I am kinda agreeing with her but the problem is what to purchase! At least with a D4 you know what the problems are likely to be and prey they never come up (fat chance, it's a LR afterall).
Now I can sense NJF's poised over his keyboard!
Neil, just ignore my rantings, not had a glass of vino in almost a week!
I happened to watch Top Gear last night - and the VW Toureg was on.
I thought, it looks quite a nice motor - but then looked at the website and the prices start at £38K!
And is only 5 seats as far as I can see.
The D4 GS starts at £36K and is a 7 seater. Seems to have a lot more as standard too.Mark.

the real question is ...........
which is cheaper? Experience is a difficult teacher, because she gives the test first and then the lesson afterwards!!!!
