Is there a test for operation of FBH during the summer? |
|
Hi,
Not a seasonal post I know, but this isn't a "it's not working", more of a "how do I know if it is working" post?
I have not had my D3 for long, so the FBH hasn't come on. How can I test to make sure its working before its waranty runs out, which it will do before it gets cold enough for it to come on (or not, judging by the posts I have read). I now have square eyes from reading all about them not working, but can't find any mention of test starting it without a faultmate or similar.
And no, I don't have access to a commercial freezer.
Any ideas? CGA

Bag of frozen peas on the temp sensor? just a guess? Otherwise you could add the timer mod to fire it? 2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

A can of freeze spray from Maplin might be a bit more scientific - but where is the sensor that triggers it? A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Thanks for the ideas, but is it just one sensor? I understand that its reliant on both the outside temperature, and the coolant temperature to activate. I have read the threads re the timer, and that still doesn't apear to guarentee it working. I was thinking of a more technical solution before spending money. All I need to know is that its not working so I can get the dealer to fix it. CGA

I know you can prime the FBH with FaultMate but haven't looked if you can fire it up since the last software update. Here's one Wiggs prepared earlier Faultmate MSV2 EXTREME

If you want to play with some electronics, you can control the Webasto over its W-Bus connnection from a USB adaptor and a laptop using Webasto's own software from their website. This is how I play with it.
See this for all the info.....

There are two temperature sensors that I know about in the Disco. - One is near the Intercooler which gives the temperature readout on the dash and the other is between the Air Filter box and the radiator. If you look down you will see what looks like a connector with nothing attached. There is actually a pin head thermistor at one end. I suspect this is the one that is used with the Webasto but have not got round to playing it - yet!
If you do spray it with a freezer can, remember most electronics will average temperature over a length of time so you will probably need to keep it cold for a few minutes.
Good luck.
Ian.

Ian,
Thanks for that, a bit too technical for me ( I can just about turn the wifes laptop on, so my eyes glazed over quite quickly), so I will probably trot off to 4tech as he is quite local. I am going to give the car a good looking over (and under) in the next week or 2 to cheeck for any obvious leaks and if so do a snag list for the dealer I got it from. I might just ask him to see if he can fire it up anyway, then follow the advice on the forum re keeping it going.
