Hi Guys
Well I am permanently emigrating to Oz (Perth) with my family in two weeks time to start a new branch of my company over there. I am having to sell my D3 as transporting it over there costs too much in duties, etc . I will be looking for a used 2007-2009 D3 (maybe a V8!) once I am settled there. I have however loaded my Afrispoor trailer into my shipping container with all my household furniture and possesions
Thanks for all the comaraderie, humour and advice over the past few years. I will still be active on the forum and will be following your posts with great interest.
Cheers
Doc D3 2005 HSE V8 model, snorkel, nudge bar, uprated tow hitch (12T), Goodyear Wrangler MTR (MT) tyres, National Luna battery box, Outback roof-rack, Takla seat covers.

Does relocating to Perth still qualify as emigrating? I thought that by now Perth is considered as SA's 10th province.
Cheers Doc and good luck.

Thanks guys for the good wishes
I think Perth probably does qualify as the 10th province of the RSA. I wonder what the Ozzies think of all the South Africans invading their country. I am not quite invading as my father was half Australian and I have aunts, cousins and all manner of relatives living in Oz. Our Ozzie family tree dates back to the 1880's
CaverD3, I have to love your humour
See all of you guys online

We don't treat you guys like the British did re:residence ; that was a disgrace .........
Have you fallen foul of the "less than 2 years ownership of vehicle rule ", regarding import taxes ?
.......... what's with this WA routine ? Australia is the East Coast
P.S. Did you consider Canada? We were required to re-sit exams and Prof Board for Canada
( they have a USA style Medical system/courses ) and consequently chose here , since it was
reciprocal with the UK .

Hi Neil
Even though the vehicle is older than 2 years (2008 model) the customs guys wanted to charge me 5% duty plus 10% GST on the deemed value of the vehicle (PLUS shipping & insurance costs). When I found this out, it just wasn't worth bringing the vehicle over. .
Perth is a great place and as I am involved with mining, oil & gas it made sense to settle in WA. Sidney is very beautiful but commuting through that traffic would kill me.
I did have to requalify in one particular field which gave me more points, but this wasn't too much of a problem. I also think the english tests are a good thing. If you want to live in an english speaking country then you had better be able to speak the language

In '87 it was a straight "bring-in" . Times have changed.
We didn't import because back in those days cars were heaps
cheaper in Oz than Britain . That's not the case now since EU
boarders have gone , and with it UK vehicle rip-offs are no more ......
