What emergency spares would you take?
We spend a fair bit of time in the middle of nowhere in SW France. It's always been at the back of my mind that a breakdown with the nearest dealer miles away could take the gloss off a trip.
What relatively low cost and transportable LR spares would you take in case of a D3 'moment'? One that occurs to me would be an EGR blanking kit, but I'm sure the collective wisdom here can suggest others!

I'd buy one of the faultcode reader/clearer things that BBS do - could stop something stupid from leaving you stranded!2014 D4 XS
2005 D3 SE - Gone

Never really understood that idea !
If it's a fault that will reset, then cycling the ignition will do the same - Even EGR valve etc can be reset in this way. If the fault is persistant - the vehicle will show the fault again.
If it's a major fault, then knowing it's xyz fault and not having the part is just about as useful as a chocolate fireguard.
Clearing the history won't exactly help the AA or Dealership will it.
I would put that sort of money towards foreign breakdown cover or extended warranty "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

Always take out the breakdown cover, but it's the prospect of waiting days for the LR part that fills me with trepidation. I reckon that having a small box of those things most likely to be needed would speed up the process...

After having epb shoes disintegrate on me in the UK, if I did another longish trip to France or wherever, I think I'd take a new pair of epb shoes /springs etc.(for I side at least), unless you know all is well with the epb (unlikely) Also I'd take a spare intercooler hose, the one that tends to split (which emerges up R/H side roughly in front of the oil filler cap).Full size spare wheel too, if you happen to have a silly space saver.

Just driving round europe, a code reader i think is a good idea as it enables you if competent to fix the d3, if your on hols a good set of tools a code reader , order the parts from tlo they get delivered fix d3.
failing that, oil, air filter, fuel filter, puncture seal, tie wraps, duct tape, bulbs, breakdown and warranty.
further afield lots of stuff.

You could take the obvious I guess, but the D3 can throw a spanner in the works. The only time mine has let me down and crippled the D3 was a ABS sensor in the Hub, it wrecked the ride height/transmission/speedo, so my kit would include a sensor and recever.

Although, obviously it's worth to take some sensible spares on extended trips I totally agree with you 90BHP, R01 & DSL.
Take extended warranty with EU cover, the telephone number for our very own Parts wizard(TLO) and a fridge full of beer for waiting for the parts to arrive and be fitted (or DIY it) and you'll be in safe hands without the need to read any faults that you are highly unlikely to understand properly without a dealer anyway.
