I'm hoping that as my good lady wife is short of stature, she might not look up and notice it Whistle

Bargain! And no need for a mortgage!!!! Shocked

I don't think you'd get a mortgage on the tent. I'd guess there would be problems with Land Registry and the searches.

OK I measured last night. Measuring across the brackets at their lowest setting, there is 50mm clearance in the centre of the vehicle. I am not sure that the rack even goes far enough back to meet with the "mouse" but there you have it. Measure the height of the "mouse" and you will know

Thanks for that Baben!
Looking at the photo's available i'm pretty sure that clearance won't be an issue

And Baben comes up trumps again. Very Happy
He's asking the relevant questions for me.

Now all I need to do is keep everything crossed until he comes back with an answer... 8)

I'm in the process of refitting the rack, and meaured it just for fun. It's actually 2130mm long, not 2200, and ends approx 37mm short of the end of the glass roof, and is 58mm above the roof. This might help with the "mouse"/PTI antenna story. Have a look:

Front Runner D3 roof racks

Afternoon chaps.
JJ Here Frogs Island 4x4.

Just been reading through the thread, it would seem that your all looking for (or have been) some Front Runner racks. I read a post saying that I have estimated a price of £1200.... I can assure you this isn't the case, and my appologies if that was the impression given. Whilst i think its not appropriate for me to quote prices in the forum, what i can say is that the price stated above would buy 2 racks + VAT. These racks are redily available so please let me know where and when you need them.

Obiously if 3 are still requieds, we can talk!!

Regards
JJ

Well after a trip 'daaahn sarf' here's mine Very Happy

Had another one on the roof on the way back up, so there was a bit of noise from the straps and packaging, however, went for a run out yesterday - thought a wheel was falling off! Shocked sounded like the resonance you get with a back window open at motorway speeds or driving over corrugations at the 'wrong' speed Confused
As I hadn't fitted the air deflector kit (supplied) I tried it with the spare on - quiet as a whistling mouse Very Happy
The rack is easy to fit , although a bit of ingenuity is required to get at some of the fixings, all bolts are supplied and the rails are also easy to exchange, fitting on top of standard roof trims would have been better as there is a 60mm gap at the rear, not visible from ground level though.
clears the PTI wart easily, initially it rests on it but there is loads of height adjustment available.
Pro's
much more stable than the Expo rack
more crossmembers reduces the chance of roof dents / breakage and provides lots of tie-down positioning points
Ability to carry over-size loads
Roof rails are more substantial
Lower rear profile
good manufacturing quality

Cons
looks like an old bedstead has been put on the roof (according to Mrs.10 Rolling Eyes )
Profile & shape doesn't blend in with the vehicle as much as the LR one
still relies on 8 x M6 fixings to the body, the same as the LR rack & rails
Bl00dy expensive from UK dealers Sad

overall
great bit of engineering! more useful & sturdier than the LR offering, should blend in better with some kit on it - FR roof tent next year!

Cheers Baben Thumbs Up

p.s. are you a M, L or XL Wink

Not been above about 60mph since fitting mine but haven't noticed any noise from it at all so the 'noise killer' plates obviously do their job. If it ever stops raining I'll get the lights fitted, I'm expecting a small rise in wind noise then but hopefully nothing too much

Sorry to say but I'm with Mrs10 here - looks department 0/10, but I understand that it's a much better piece of kit than the LR one, but the LR one looks good. Sorry! Embarassed
Loving the power of the TDV8!

VA, have to agree, the LR one does look better..... but that's all Rolling Eyes
I did think about the 1.6 metre rack, which would look less 'transit hi-top' but wouldn't have tha capacity I need Sad
Form = LR expo
Function = Front Runner
Sadly the two are poles apart...

looks

IMO it can't be too difficult to make a rack thats as sexy as the LR one, but with a bit more beef. The problem here is the whole "industrialisation", in other words making it as universal and as cheap as you can. The LR rack is definitely made as cheap as they come, but yeah it's good looking. The FR rack will fit just about anything and strong as you need, but is a bit industrial looking.
Having a square rack is actually quite good for space availability, as we seem to make everything (except that damn spare wheel) square, eg roof tents etc. The curved bit on the front of the LR rack is very nice looking and great for low noise, but you can't really do anything with it till you take the top bit off. Horses for courses as we all know.

I'm a L, but don't go overboard...

Baben, happy as a dog with two d**ks Very Happy Very Happy
it wasn't a criticism, just observation Embarassed I'll be a lot happier with the FR rack than I was / would be with the LR one, that said, different people have different requirements so looks like DG will be happy too 8)
