Roofrack and sunroof problems??? |
|
As anyone got experience of Patriot or Frontrunner roof racks on a D3 with sun roofs? I heard that there has been problems with the glass cracking?

I think you might be thinking of the rear fixed glass roof panel.
With the front runner at least you get replacement roof rails, and they look a fraction wider than the L/R ones, and i'm guessing that if you bolt then down too tight you could crack the glass roof panel - best avoided as i think i read somewhere that they're £1000, and it is probably not covered on your glass insurance.
I have used M6 or M8 (whichever size it is - can't remember) unistrut clips ("Zebede's", but without the spring), and if you file them down fractionally they fit within the original roof rails and you can then bolt your roofrack on whilst retaining the original roof rails.
Can't speak for Patriot racks. Tim

The FR rails come with spacers (well the should do) to put under them so you can't tighten them down too much and crack the glass The End

I fitted a frontrunner a couple of months ago, no probs, spacers keep rails away from the glass.I did see the link about cracking the glass so was extra carefull, managed it on my own quite well. Go for a frontrunner, love mine
