yeah that's a fair point! Irish roads are so bad you need air suspension. i just fancied getting the old girl a bit muddy.

Whenever I have driven over there, my car has needed a wash afterwards
I don't know Wicklow very well. but earlier this year I took part in the Macmillan 4x4 Challenge which took us across Eire from Dublin, to the area north of Galway, which I think is known as Joyces Country? (Cong, Conemarra etc) and there were lots of unmade roads and tracks. I'm not sure of the legal status over in Eire, but there were no signs saying Keep Out.

As far as I know, there's not a lot around unless you are in a group and have obtained prior permission from whoever owns the tracks (usually Coillte). If you do find anything, post details on here though 2001 D2 GS (I must be mad!)

There is no system of public rights of way in the republic. Access on foot is tolerated (or was until litigation took off) so as far as greenlaning goes not a chance unless you get consent from the land owner.

Barry you can contact a few clubs , Club Land Rover Ireland ( outings once a month ) , Leinster 4X4 ( every Sunday) and Irish 4x4 Club and All Ireland Land Rover Club ( not sure of frequency , but have a look on their websites ( PM Mark Dunne AKA Black Betty ).All have lanes ( 1000's of acres) from green to black.
There are a good few greenlanes here if you look for them. Most are kept quiet for good reason , if you find any please don't post on the net.If you are new to offroading I suggest joining a club or at least one of their outings.
Cheers
