I'm hoping the board can help me make an informed decision about the lr3 (us...and this is the best site for info worldwide, so I'm here!)
I really want to find out some crash test safety data, and it seems there has been none yet.
what i really want to know if there are any safety provisions for the 3rd row like airbags, or a rear impact system like the volvo xc90 has to protect 3rd row passengers.
i plan to use this feature a lot, and it is what's selling me on the car over xc90 or x5 (no room at all!)

You plan to use your cars airbags and impact systems a lot? Remind me never to accept a lift off you
There doesn't appear to have been a European NCAP rating awarded for the vehicle yet:
But I can confirm that - certainly in the UK - the third row of seats is protected by head-height "side curtain" airbags. Don't know about other impact systems though.

sorry yes, I meant the feature of the third row.... not the safety features for the third row!deciding on LR3....

Bigsmoke, I guess the main saftey feature on the LR3 is its immensely strong chassis and generally heavy duty build. Whilst this adds substantially to the weight of the vehicle, it should also offers substantial passanger protection in the event of a crash or roll over. The 3rd row seats are apparently built within the chassis saftey zone (rather than within a crumple zone) as the vehicle was designed from inception as a 3 row seater. Some vehicles had a third row added as an after thought. Having said that, we do all await the results of the NCAP tests on saftey. The Xc90 stood up pretty well for us last summer; this was the result of us at the back of a motorway queue vs. a Mazda sports car that didn't stop at around 50mph. My eldest was in the third row and suffered a twisted knee; the crumple zone went under his seat.
I reckon the D3 would perform better, though, and I wouldn't return to the XC90 after a year's ownership all said and done...
So what exactly prompted someone to dig up a 5-year-old thread? I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
