Disco 4 and tow electrics |
|
I know there is a continual debate about tow electrics
Has anyone installed the electrics themselves and had the dealer make the software changes so the PDC don't bleat all the time when reversing?
I had a quote of £240.00 to fit - which to me seems very high for a plug and play wiring loom.
Any offers of advice welcome.

Depends on how well you know your dealers as to whether they'll charge you for the activation, but other than that it's straight forward. The electrics will actually work, but as you already mentioned, unless properly activated the PDCs won't deactivate when a trailer is connected.

I queried this cost when I had mine done.
Apparently it's not the same job as on the D3 and involves removal of the rear bumper! so more time has been allocated to the job as a result.

Yes - i did them myself on my D3. No bumper removal.
So i have ordered the electrics.
Just need to find a friendly dealer to enable.

Hi All,
Thanks for the observations - electrics acquired.
Any info on how to remove the D4 rear bumper to fit the electric would be appreciated.

Carefully...
You'll need to remove the rear wheel arch trims to get a the screws behind them, then they are 5 or 6 plastic clips along top below the lower tailgaten and I think one screw either side underneath where the reflectors. I may still have the GTR documents from when I did mine, PM me you e-mail address and I'll forward you a copy.

Had dealer do mine for about £170. Did consider going to a trailer specialist but with the car being so complex with features such as Tow Stability Asist I decided I wanted the dealer to do it.

the dealers need to make more money, so the fitting instructions have been changed to make it a longer and more expensive job Duncan

Has anyone compared the electronic kit for D3 and D4? Parts numbers are different and LR claim they are not interchageable but looks like they are. TJ
