pre 2007 cars can have the EGR's blanked easily.
2007+ cars having an engine light require a £125+ Software Patch to turn the light off
Yes you save about £200 if it's registered before ~20 ( 26?) March 2006.
Autobox's a nice when they are working. But not the most reliable
Have you considered a RR Sport? It's the same drive train but a bit shorter when less load space

Nothing is thrown away. You just blank off the pipes and leave EGR valves in place.
Easy but fiddly job.
With new MOT you should put the pipes back in place on top of the blanks so it looks like it is not blanked off.
2005 MY you need to check if the suspension compressor has been replaced and if so with what type.
I have a 2005 SE on 85000 miles and have just replaced the original Hitachi compressor with a AMK type. £620 on parts. DIY Inc. Software upgrade.

I didn't think a 2005 had a light.
Only a message on LCD and that isn't triggered for egr faults
Does eBay listing have a dash pic with light on?

go have a look.
should be easy to blank,
but their maybe other codes that are more expensive! e.g turbo !
although that maybe worth a punt if you need a runabout and it drives ok. and its cheap (and you have cash to spare to fix it!)

If its just the EGR valves then if you blank them and get the fault codes cleared then the light should not come back on.
However it would probably be best to get all the fault codes read before you make a decision regarding buying it - just in case its something nasty that is causing the fault codes to put the management light on.2005 SE Manual Cairns Blue

Yes IID will read the codes on the disco without being licenced to it. EGR faults should not put the EML on on a 2005 model, only euro 4 2007 model and later.Stu

I blanked off the EGR in my 05 and drove it for months before as they were dying and then I got no power at all, after blanking (cost £24) car was back to normal and has recently passed an MOT, easy job, undo EGR from block, fit blanking plate, refit, job done

My 2006 has issues with the ERGs and I got them blanked and no problems since. BUT at no stage did the EML come on so there is a good chance that the light is coming on for a different problem. If it’s as simple as blanking them to get rid of the light ask the seller to do it and see if that solves the light before you buy. I’d say it took my Indy 20 minutes to do mine so it won’t
