whining noise and knocking from front end
Our disco has developed a whining noise which can be heard up to about 50mph. If you put the box in manual you can still hear it on the over run. Also if you dab the brake pedal briskly, there is a knocking noise, which also happens if you go over rough ground.
The knocking noise has only developed over the last week when we did a 2500 mile trip to Germany and back, but the whining noise was there before and Stratstones changed a wheel bearing 2 weeks ago, but its no better!
Could they have changed the wrong wheel bearing? And could the knocking noise be related to a failed bearing?

Does the wheel in question get hot?
Maybe a brake caliper seizing or indeed the bearing.
Could be brake binding of course.

Agree with Q86ARR,
Had knocking noise from front which turned out to be excess wear in lower ball joints/bushes.
Whining noise from rear of mine was rear diff. All replaced under warranty.
