why is the dealer trying to talk you out of it ?
It's your car ! (and ur money)
unless he has local stock that he wants to get rid of

I've had my D3 for a 1yr with the Alpine roof ... doesn't get too hot in summer and nice for the rear passengers to get to look up also ...
i like it cause it lets more light in the car ....
and i prefer a sunroof for the airflow ...
that is my opinion ... but i always buy a sunroof with any new car.

Yep your absolutely right, they have a bit of stock of HSEs, but only one ot two witth roofs..and they wouldd rather I buy that stock...but they also said they had a lot of trouble moving cars with the roofs ??
..but after having 2 roofs in the D2, its seems a natural progression to me, and I generally don't like to go backwards in cars... but to get the car to the spec i want ..blk with blk TDV6 HSE L7 Nav roofs etc ...I may need to order in but as the 07 model is on the horizon, the wait will be long with delivery projected at 12/06 ..
its good to hear that you like the roofs, i found heat no issue in our D2 even here in Brisbane, so I was assuming same would apply to the D3...are the bilnds a one-piece for each of the roofs..the D2s are 2 half blinds per roof..?

Regards
david

david,

the blinds are one piece each for all three (inc sunroof).

also, to outlay that kind of cash and not get exactly what you want .... it is sometimes worth the wait Wink

Glass on Top

David,
I have the glass roofs here in Adelaide on a Disco3. My initial thoughts during the order process were that they would be too hot for the climate here, but this is not the case. We get very hot dry days here, quite glary and bright, but with the sunshades drawn (they are a perforated device which lets some light through) the light levels in the cabin area are good and bright, without being too glary.

You can even have the front roof glass open, but with the shade drawn; this gives good ventelation but without the glare Surprised

I must share with you and forum members one of my more radical ideas which helped me select the glass roof option. Prior to purchase, when the dealer really did not have a good knowledge of what the finer details of the car were, I asked if the glass roofs were openable. I wanted to be able to stand up in the rear and shoot bunnies, etc. on some properties I have access to, as you do here, with spotlights. I had ideas of standing there, securely supported by the roof frame, bum and legs in the comfort of the warm cabin, driver in front with spotlight, and, well, you get the drift...

Well, of course you can, said the dealer....

Anyway, the vehicle was eventually delivered, but the rear two roof glass areas (one piece of glass really) is quite fixed and cannot be opened at all. Sad That put paid to my idea of comfortable shooting. The dealer did then say, and demonstrated in the showroom much to the amusement of some potential purchasers and to my dismay, that you can really stand on the rear tailgate and shoot from there Shocked

The first piece of undulating ground would have had you dislodged and aerial off the back of the vehicle, with loaded rifle in hand. Just the stuff accident reports are made of.

So, my idea of using the vehicle as a shooting platform has been modified somewhat, but it still fulfills this need. And very well - goes everywhere I need to. I even disable the annoying seat belt dingy thing during these trips around the property. Everytime I clean the interior, I find little pieces of brass shell remnants...

Anyway, I recommend the glass roof. It works well in Australia. And it's your vehicle, not the dealer's, so you choose..
Cheers,
Geoff

roofs

Hey Geoff
Thanks for coming back to me, i guess when my conversation started with the dealers about looking for a good price on D3 with 'alpine', they are doing all they can to move stock that they have kickin around, but sadly none have roofs, but not to the deal get in the way of what a customer prefers shoot down the benefits of a D3 with alpine ...M8 toooo hot, but hey I can do a great deal on this car here...etc etc

I'll just hold out for now, the trade in $ of the a D2 HSE Td5 with works so far is very ordinary, I would hope if I can get into a D3 with the lot, that they hold their value better..

Whilst loading kit onto the roof rack on Friday for the 'Peaks' weekend Razz I lost my balance, went to stand on the raised tail gate realised that it would simply close Embarassed Shocked then had to make drastic manoeuvres which resulted in putting a foot onto the glass at the rear of the alpine roof so now its broke Big Cry I will post a picture this week when I have time.
