Help - diesel misfuel device? |

Went to put some BP Ultimate into the D4 tonight (for the first time), instead of regular diseasel. Immediately it started to cut off the fuel as soon as I pulled the trigger. No nozzle position would get the pump to pump properly.
Figured it might have, for some reason, triggered to misfuel mechanism as I can see some little 'bolts' sticking out halfway down the pipe leading into the fuel tank. With a queue forming for the pump, I paid for the few quid I had managed to put in, and drove home (and no - I hadnt mistakingly used the unleaded pump)!!!
I've played about with the yellow misfuelling device they give you (in case that was the problem), but I cant get it to work. I push it in, angle it down - and nothing happens.
Can someone tell me - if they open the cap and look into their tank, do you have a smooth pipe - or are there normally a pair of small 'bolts' jotting out halfway down? If so, perhaps it hasnt trigged the DMFD afterall. And I was just unlucky with the pump I chose!
Advice, as ever, appreciated... I'm no mechanic - in any sense of the word. 747_JK

Just looked at mine. Looking down pipe there are two gry round type lugs sticking out, they are in the top half of the pipe, just below these and more in the bottom half of the pipe there are two square black lugs sticking out, finally on the bottom part of the tube there is a grey strip which looks like a slide. Hope this helps, if not send me a PM and I will try to photograph it.

Thanks Russell.
Went to Shell this AM and she took a full tank of diesel perfectly - must have been a broken pump at BP yesterday which was stopping the fuel flowing. I really thought something had set off the misfuel protector, especially when I bothered to look inside the pipe to the tank and saw those bits sticking out.
Obviously must be there all the time...

For future reference the misfuel cut off is yellow and blocks off the fuel filling pipe, although you can stil drible fuel in.

You can try it at home if you want. Just put the rounder end of the reset tool down the filler neck and it will set off the yellow flap, as this end is the size of a petrol pump nozzle; it does not have the abilty to push the lugs on both sides like the fatter diesel nozzle.
When it has set off you use the smaller end with the 2 tabs upwards, these lock into the holes at the top and then you pull (I think although maybe push away) the tool towards you and this will reset the flap.
