EML has come on
Hi
This is my first post, although I have been reading the site before.
No problems in the year I had her so far apart from the high pressure fuel hose recall.
So yesterday the EML came on , no change in power or mpg I can tell. The only other thing I found was a lot of sooty grime on the plastic covers in the engine bay. I took the plastic covers off and couldn't see any leaks on the underneath
I read lots of posts re EGR valves, including disco mikes EGR valve change. Mines a 56 plate but a 7A****** VIN. That means blanking is not an option?
Unlucky for me my warranty ran out 2 months ago.
How can you tell if it is an EGR? or which side?
Is there a cheap fault code reader outhere?
I see new EGR are about £90 each
Advice please

Only way to confirm which EGR valve is with a fault reader.
However if you stand at the front of the engine bay and get someone to turn ignition on then off the EGR valves will do a self clean. You may be able to hear one that isn't working correctly.

Thanks, there seems to me more noise from the left EGR valve area than the right side.
I am getting hold of a faultreader from BBS, so should confirm shortly.
Meanwhile still on the road with EML on

Faultmate FCR arrived at week end. Very easy to use. I plugged in and found ,and read, 2 faults under engine management
1) PO489 : EGR control circuit low Historic
2) PO490 : EGR control circuit high Intermittent
I cleared them both but after a few starts they came back again with the EML
The engine seems to be running ok and have just come back from a weekend towing the camper.
How do you know which valve is stuck?
Can you use a blanking kit on a VIN 7A****** although it is a 56MY?
Will I be on a euroIV EGR?
Cheers

Those fault codes show a RH EGR vale problem.
Check your VIN with your stealer or a famous parts dealer and you'll find your a Euro IV
No blankety blank, just yet, for you.
Cheers

Very tight in there. I had to disconnect more to get in.
