Warning - washing your car

I read an article today regarding being wary washing your car
It said that the volcanic ash, which may have built up on your car, is extremely abrasive and could cause significant damage to paintwork.
It advised hosing the car down before washing, cleaning your sponge very regulary in clean water and using several half buckets, changing them often. Also said to be careful cleaning the window seals as opening and closing the windows if wet and dirty could scratch them.
Makes sense - it's something I had considered and therefore, I used the power washer last weekend before cleaning
It was in the Daily Mail mind so was probably a bit on the scarmongery side................

i have read this too
I would use full buckets though, less chance of picking up grit from the bottom, unless you use 50L buckets

Always hose your car down before washing it - and I'm sure that the sand that drops on them from the desert when it gets lifted and normal road muck is just as abrasive

rinse, snow foam, rinse, wash using two bucket method (one for rinse one for soapy stuff), rinse, flash auto dry mist, chammy dry.
best way to keep it looking good (probably overkill unless your a santorini black like me!!)XC90 T8 R Design Pro

Chammy's are so "yesterday" and apparently scratch hell out of paintwork by trapping grit and crap (especially on Santorini/Java Black).

I've tried those microfibre towels and don't like them.
so long as the chammy is rinsed often and binned after a few washes it works fine. i find it easier to see any grit on the chammy than the towels, besides the flash auto dry does 80% of the job i literally just drag the chammy over or mop the awkward bits where water sits waiting to pounce on the newly applied polish!XC90 T8 R Design Pro

hahaha...I tried this same argument a couple of years ago and it didn't work
I bought a decent dying cloth - a huge waffle weave one, not a microfibre cloth, and it is fantastic - much better than my old autoglym chammy

Drying towel, chammy?
I use an aquagleam filter - no need to touch the paint after rinsing and it dries spot free
Although, to be honest it's all a bit pointless as the previous owner didn't seem too careful and I haven't gotten round to dealing with those swirls and scratches!
