D4 & RRS MY2010 via Faultmate FCR Review.
Over the last few months i have had the great pleasure of working and helping with the developement and testing of the new MY2010 D4 & RRS diagnostic tools from BBS https://blackbox-solutions.com
Today was my final day of testing of the NEW Faultmate FCR (Fault Code Reader) on the D4 and RRS MY2010 models.
The Faultmate FCR is aimed at the independant home user having a diagnostic tool that can accurately diagnose and display in plane scroling test across its LCD screen the faults stored EG
P0404 Exhaust gas recirculation control - circuit range/performance
and at the same time giving you the means to clear any faults in ANY of the modules on your car.
This tool i think is the worlds first non LandRover developed tool that can read and clear faults on all modules on the new model D4 & RRS MY2010 cars, which to me is outstanding considering they have only been on the market since September 09.
Here are a few pictures of the tool in action.
The first picture is of the FCR booting up into the main menu, for these pictures and ease of use i had to actually ask Colin at BBS to send me a special firmware patch to slow the thing down so i could get time to press the camera button lol.
This thing is that fast at processing the information on the 11Bit CAN its quite frightening and if you blink you miss it opperating lol.
This next picture is of the main menu at the beginning after the boot screen.
Scroling down the menu to some of the other modules.
After pressing the A (Accept) button you will get the Read/Clear menu.
Again after pressing the A (Accept) button you will be shown any faults that are present in the system/module you choose.
If for some reason by mistake you choose a module that is not actually present on your car or it has a major communications error on the module you will get this message.
To summarize in the words of Gordon ramsay

Believe it or not, the Fault Code Reader only reads and clears Fault Codes
Maybe you could ask Colin to develop a Faultmate FLE (Fairy Light Enabler)?
You would need access to someone with a full Faulmate MSV-2 and the new D4 multi-vehicle license - in other words the original poster 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

To be honest I think that with enough persistance and pestering I could probably convince Colin to spend lots of his own money to develop a Faultmate FLE...
...but convincing my wife that we should spend 50K on buying a new D4 so that I can use Colin's new gadget? Let's just say that I'm good, but I'm not that good 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

The fairy lights are only functional on the Xenon head light unit, they are not present inside the halogen lights so they cant be turned on they only have the fairy light lense in the halogens but no bulbs/LED's inside.

EDIT: now ive read the LR site a bit more.
This text is taken from the LR site.
Quote:
The strikingly styled front lamps with LED light technology, (LED Lighting only included with the optional Xenon and Xenon Adaptive Front Headlamps) provide better driver forward vision, while the new rear lamp assembly creates a 'jewel-like' effect.

Taken from brochure i picked up last week,
TDV6 2.7 GS;
''LED front sidelights and rear tail lights''
TDV6 3.0 GS,
GS spec plus;
3.0 litre engine
Auto trans
19'' 7 spoke wheels
No mention of needing Xenon's, its seems to me that one brochure is contradicting the other, if ya need a copy pm me ya fax number and i'll fax ya a copy..

I have the brochure which quotes the fairy lights feature and it definitely implies that it is a feature of all D4 models but - as Winger has so cogently pointed out in a related thread last month, there is a paragraph at the back of the same brochure which gives LR the option to change, without notice, the quoted specification. I'm afraid we're on a loser to get LR to change that.

Hi
Faultmate FCR = Faultmate Fault Codes Reader , it only reads and clears faults.
If you want extra functions from a BBS tool you must buy the Faultmate MSV2 which gives you all the extra functions that a fault only tool does not have.
CCF edit
EUCD edit
ITP edit
oil service reset
oil dilution reset
water in fuel reset
window calibration
suspention hights and calibration
compressor tests
etc
etc
etc
i cant list them all my head is fryed.
Regarding your fairy lights, if they are already fitted to your car they will work, if they dont work they are not fitted.
Regarding your day lights, there is a thread on the forum with more about the picture below which is a part screen grab of the MSV2 CCF edit
