Dealer called, spot available, decision time!

After spending way too much time on this forum and two weekends with first a D3 (how it started) and a D4 (how it got more expensive) I have decided that I am going to buy a Disco. Reason says I should go for a used D3 and my feelings vote for the D4.

The thing is the dealer didn't have any open production slots until end of summer, which gave me time to dwell on this - until today when he called and told me that a customer had canceled his order and which gives me an opening for production in early April - if I decide "now!".

So here it goes:
I'm going for all options except DAB Radio, TV and Rear Seat Entertainment, but have a few questions regarding the last options.

In some places I get the impression that Rear Camera is included in the Surround Camera price, but in the quote from the dealer both options are listed with full price, is that correct?

18" wheels: Is there any news regarding an 18" option (non LR) ?

Color: Rimini Red
I've yet too see this color in real life, but like some of the pictures on this site with the disco in red, especially with black wheel arches and kitted out with RAI, rack + +. I am however worried that Red is "a bit too much" without these details, there are however surprisingly few good quality pictures out there. Any thoughts on this are welcome.

Surround camera is what it says, cameras all round including on the back, no extra charge for the one on the back either.

That was what I thought, seemed a bit unreasonable to get charged for the rear camera when I opted for the surround package, but who knows how they build their price lists.

Don't forget heated steering wheel as Norway is not exactly tropical. Thumbs Up

Hi ilron,
If you are offered 18" wheels, is the engine 2.7L?

Best Wishes,

I have only been offered 19" and 20" wheels from LR, but would prefer a narrower 18" rim for my winter and off road tire sets, which is why I would like to know if there has been any more news about a non OEM 18" option.

- It is a 3.0l

I read somewhere that an Australian firm was doing/is going to do an 18" wheel but the Aussies on here probably know more.

I guess we'll find out about the 18" sooner or later, someone will come around to make set if it is possible.

I placed the order today!

Have to decide about color tonight...
Right now it is Rimini Red with Black interior, but I'm thinking about changing to almond, does it look as nice in real life as it does in the pictures?

After looking for a D3 for a long time I was set on bonatti ?? grey with dark interior, in the end I bought Tonga green with light interior (tundra).

I have not yet regretted the light coloured interior, when I see D3 on finn with grey and dark interior now, I think its way too dark inside.

But what does your heart say ?

Good luck with an really nice vehicle.

I asumme the 3 litre comes with 19 inch wheels because it has larger diameter brake discs?

cte:
That is correct, the brakes are too large for the OEM 18" wheels.

CnW:
My heart says that I want a different color than most D4's out there, as you you know from finn most of them are grey or black with black interior.

I've always had black interiors in my car and am kinda tired of that, although it is a safe bet.
The reason why I'm not entirely convinced about light interiors is that some of those I've seen gives an impression that the material seems "fake", not sure how to describe it but plastic beige is not leather beige..

I guess that is the only thing keeping me from the almond interior in the D4. Might not be a problem at all if I could have seen it IRL first, but that is not an option right now and it is hard to tell how much of the interior is leather and how much is plastic from the pictures..

FWIW I went through the same indecision until I saw an almond/arabica interior for real. It looks great and IMO makes the cabin look roomier and a bit more 'lux'. I guess like most manufacturers the non-leather bits are the non wear surfaces like the back of the seats. What interior does the brochure recommend with Rimini red? I suppose if the car is going to get very intensive, dirty use then black is much more practical, especially as the carpets and boot liner are also in the pale shade now, although not almond (which is the lighter shade of pale) but the slightly darker pale (forget what it's called).

I have the light interior and also had similar reservations.
One thing that I have since discovered however is that dried mud is the same colour as the carpets! It doesn't show up anywhere nearly as much as it did on my D3 with ebony interior.

Thanks for great feedback!

The recommended combination is Almond/Nutmeg, but I think the Almond/Arabica looks better in the pictures, not sure why it is not recommended though.

Elemental: Did the car you saw also have "wood" interior trim? Did it look good or fake as wood often do in cars?
