Handbrake light flashing

Hi,

I've owned a discovery 4 gs for a week now had a disco 3 for 4 years previously, but on the third day of ownership I've had the handbrake light flashing with a bonging noise, this only happens on startup and has no message accompanying the light, has anyone else had this problem?

Also I notice that the Discovery 4 seems to drift to the left (uk roads) even on the motorway I have to correct the direction, I feel the 4 wheel alignment is out but as I would have to pay for this wanted to check if others had similar issues before trying to persuade landrover to pay the £200 for it to be re-aligned.

The car is booked into the dealers for the 11th but would like to provide them with some guidance re the faults.

any help appreciated.

The handbrake light flashes and bongs on switch on if it wasn't set before turning off. This catches me out as my previous car was a Renault Scenic and stopping the engine engaged the parking brake - the D4 doesn't do this.

The pulling to the left is there (slightly) on mine, too. I think it's 3 tons drifting gent;y down the camber Wink

Thanks for the reply, this implies the handbrake is releasing itself, (or not setting correctly), which is odd as I'm in the habit of always setting and waiting for the light to come on, as my drive is on a steep slope don't like to rely too much on the auto gearbox to hold the car.

Re the camber roll I just find it odd my old car was never effected by camber and I think the Disco 3 was a tad heavier, however this car does have 19" wheel compared to the 17" the old one had, so maybe its tyres which are causing the issue.

Shakey, the handbrake light shouldn't flash and you shouldn't get a bong at ignition on. You have a fault of some sort, though not something that can be internet diagnosed.

If you don't engage the handbrake at switch off, it stays off when you restart. With the manual, it will engage automatically, and can be set via the CCF to do the same on the auto too if you ask your dealer.

Shakey- reference the EPB - my drive also on a slope and the car did this once on me about a fortnight ago on restarting with bongs and flashing light for handbrake. Hasn't done so since.

My XS went in to have the one-touch closing on one of the windows fixed the other day, and they did the assurance program while it was there. I mentioned the EPB beeping, and they said that the software update would have fixed that. Unfortunately not, as it did it again last night....

I guess it'll be going back to the dealers again then!

After Winger's comments I've had mine looked at but the dealer can't find any problems and no errors have been logged.

Anybody found the answer to this one?

I had the same on my MY10 RRS. Next time it happens, if you look carefully you might see a "Parkbrake Fault" message on the dash for about half a second. I didn't bother to take mine to the dealer and it has now stopped. No more messages. Brake works fine, taking into account it's a LR EPB.

WRT your D4 pulling to the left, there's some history on the forum ;

There may be others. Winger had an interesting take on it Laughing . If it's out of line then it will be fixed FOC as far as I'm aware. Mine took two attempt sat different dealerships but got sorted. Thumbs Up

Hi,

I've now had two four wheel alignments at two different dealerships the local ones don't seem to have the correct software to realign a discovery 4. now the tracking is set the car drifts left on left hand cambers and right and right hand cambers, however it still seems very camber sensitive - something the discovery 3 wasn't.

If any one can confirm if they feel the disco 4 is camber sensitive I blame the large wheels on the discovery 4?

The Flashing handbrake light, the dealer has tried once to resolve with a software update, this failed, its back at the dealers today for attempt two.

Also seem to be having problems with the drivers seat comfort feels like its off centre and not supporting both side of the upper back, again never an issue in the disco3.(any one else noticed this)

Never had any of these problems with my XS. You mention big wheels though - I'm on 19" rims, have you specced something different, non standard?

Hi,

Sorry its a standard gs, but my old base 7 seat model disco 3 was on 17" from memory not 19", also the old car ran continental tyres vs Pirelle on the new one - not sure if any of these might cause camber sensitivity.

I also have been having th flashing bonging handbrake light on start up - have had quite a lot of times now but it does seem to be an intermittent issues.

I originally thought it may be because I had been forgetting to pull the lever on parking but this is definately not the case.

Out of interstest, the others who have reported this same issue, do you generally lower to access height when parking, I always do, and wonder if it's a side effect of this in some way?

Would be good to hear any resolution to this problem.

Mine seems to be doing it more regulalry now, and tried leaving it in standard height where it happened also.

My car is at the dealer on Friday for something else and have asked them to look at this also.
