Portable Power Pack from National Luna
I am considering fitting the portable power pack at the back of the car. The one question I have which concerns me is if the system will interfere with the electronics of the car. The other question is oviously has anyone fitted this system to their vehicle.

The National Luna power pack works very well. It allows a much larger battery than using the space in front. Convenient, but needs to be properly secured.
There is no electronic interference possible if installed properly and fused. N1 Safari centre installed this on all my D3's: never any problem. Also recommended by the dealer.

Have the portable NL battery box fitted in the load body. Power provided to the box from engine bay via 16mm cables routed through firewall and door sills to rear of vehicle. Unit works well with no interference with car electrics and can be easily removed for services ect. Only problem is sometimes the NL alarm is activated when input power from the alternator exceeds that for which the NL is designed. Have spoken with NL and they have reassured me that this will not detrimentally affect the NL System apart from the system alarm having to be manually cancelled.
I have the same box, had the cables pulled to the back (by LR approved fitter). works well and it's portable. No problems or complaints.
As AP Moller says, bigger battery can be fitted, I have a 105aH, but then again, my dad has the 70ah fitted to the front and a cable for a box in the back, giving him 175aH.2007 TDV6 SE auto (ex Write off)

Okay you guys have convinced me to go ahead and install the box. Another question can this sytem be installed in a Disco 4 should I decide to change to a new car at a latter date.
Yes, you can install into any car (as long as the alternator can keep up) and believe me that D4 and D3 has more than enough oomph in that department.
The lay a power and earth cable (16mm supplied when you buy the box) from your main battery to the back (boot). You plug the box in and then all the fancy electronics take over. After a 5 minute delay after startup, your box starts charging. Once you switch off the car and the voltage drops below 12.6v, the isolator disconnects your box from the main battery

Alternator capacity shouldn't be a problem , between the car and the trailer I have 4 extra batteries

Is straping the box down between the two eyes provided at the the best method or can another method be used.
I pack mine the following way. I have the LR non slip mat at the back. Standing at the rear, my cables are on the left. I put my box against the back of the left seat and then my fridge fits in behind it. Net to the box comes my wolf packs (ammo boxes) and then there is no way of it moving. I face the display of the box towards the rear seat.
Becasue of the declined seat position, it still breaths some air. If you want to check the discplay, just fold down the seat and check display.
Check out Doc's gallery, he fastend with a tie down through the standard eye lids.2007 TDV6 SE auto (ex Write off)

As DiscoJacques mentioned, I have the NL grey box mounted in the load box and secured with a rachet tiedown.

I use the spare space above the NL to mount a dual piston (very noisy ) compressor which means it is always handy and does not suffer from the high heat environment of the engine bay
I have a 105 Ah Deltec battery in the NL linked to the OEM battery in the engine bay (thick cables). I use the output from the NL to feed to my trailer electrical system which also has a 105 Ah Deltec. Voltage at the trailer battery is a respectable 13.5V when running the engine. The D3 alternator is great for charging numerous batteries as it a variable current output of 90-150 Amps.
The only pain is NL alarm which is far too sensitive to the D3 high voltage output of 14.2-14.4 V. Just switch off the alarm D3 2005 HSE V8 model, snorkel, nudge bar, uprated tow hitch (12T), Goodyear Wrangler MTR (MT) tyres, National Luna battery box, Outback roof-rack, Takla seat covers.
