RSE DVD player
Does anybody know if the region code can be changed on the RSE DVD players. Can I change an American one (region 1 I think) to a region two for Europe. If so how easy is it?MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Russell WHY are you looking at buying a changer from the States You have already identified the biggest issue - Region 1 but then there is the price They are soooooooo much more over there
What's wrong with the brand new ones advertised here in the UK for £185 delivered..........urm..........somewhere.........oh you know where
The quoted part number is for Region 2 NTSC but this can be set to PAL, NTSC or Auto using the remote control so a no brainer really, unless you want to hold out for a second hand one for less but the last one of those sold for £200

Region 2 NTSC is Japan, isn't it - so wouldn't work with UK Region 2 PAL DVDs?
Of course, I bow to your research on this 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
Any issues with the site let me know!

Region 2 covers Japan, Europe, South Africa and The Middle East so thats the important bit, if the changer is set to Auto you can put in either a NTSC or PAL encoded dvd and it should play ok. 8)2022MY Defender 110 D250 HSE X Dynamic, Gondwana with options!

Not sure if PAL/NTSC is necessarily the same as region coding on DVD's, are you saying that this player if set to Auto will actuallby bypass the region coding on DVD's including RCE titles? This is very different than auto selecting whether the souce is PAL or NTSC format.
You can get region free (region 0) DVD's in both native PAL or NTSC.
I thought my reply was quite clear but just to be sure here is my understanding of it all:
As there appears to be no easy was to change the Region coding of the changer itself it is very important that you buy one suitable for your specific region, for example Region 1 for USA or Region 2 for UK.
What is not so important is whether the quoted part number refers to NTSC or PAL formats as THIS can be manually changed or set to Auto using the remote control.
So the part number XQE000204 is listed in Microcat as Region 2 NTSC, my guess is this is the actual part that is fitted to vehicles heading for Japan as they use the same Region 2 coding as the UK but the NTSC format. The RSE manual specifically details the process of setting or changing the video format from NTSC to PAL or Auto, now I haven't actually bought one of these as my changer cost me far less but I was about to push the button to buy one until I found a more cost effective alternative
This is of course just my opinion but once again for anyone who is not clear just make sure you buy a changer coded for your correct region - the video format of NTSC or PAL is irrelevant. Or to put it another way if you want to buy a pair of new headlights for your D3 or D4 I am sure there are different part numbers for left and right hand drive models but the zenons are basically the same lights you just need to adjust the lever on each one to adjust them for left or right hand driving.

Thanks for your clarification Andy.
It's not clear whether the OP Russell is requiring a system for playing DVD's from different regions or whether he could do just a one time change of region 1 to region 2?
I have a number of DVD's (especially ones for the kids) that are a mix of both region 1 and region 2 encoded discs and it was of vital importance to me thay my in car system could be hacked to play both.

For info on searching for the remote hacks ( which i cant find any )
Dvd unit is an Alpine DHA-S680G4 Gone ...but not forgotten
Here is the page from the RSE manual detailing region codes - Interestingly it shows a code 0 for all and a code 9 for region free I expect changing the region code is possible but yet another one of those manufacturer closely guarded secrets

Of course all this talk of changing the region codes seems a little pointless when it is very easy to make "back-up" copies of your DVD's region free with the right software

Ha - you're kidding right? Far less hassle pressing a few buttons on a remote to permanently change to multi region than ripping and reburning a 100 or so DVD's!
Actually, the way to go is to bypass a disc player of any form and use a hard drive based media playback device such as the PlayOnHD or Xtreamer, all 200 or so DVD's and a number of Blu Rays acessible via a GUI.
Unfortunately my current DVD solution/screens does not have any external inputs as it uses a propretory cable to connect player to screens, had I known at the time that the factory fitted option had RCA video and audio in sockets I would have been more tempted...

WHY DO I BOTHER
YOU CANT CHANGE THE REGION CODING BY PRESSING BUTTONS ON THE REMOTE
The remote will only change the video format from PAL to NTSC or Auto

I KNOW THAT.
DON'T GET SO CARRIED AWAY WITH YOUR 's!
You can use the remote to multi region stand alone DVD players and also some in car systems, inlcuding mine, which I have done, and I am saying that is much easier than having a system where you cannot change the code via the remote and ripping and reburning as you suggested.

But if you read Russells original thread he's not asking about other stand alone DVD players
