OK, this is going somewhat
I didn't say he was, I was just responding to your somewhat generic statement above with a somewhat generic statement of my own.
Please don't give yourself a further brain bashing, I'm starting to feel sorry for that poor old brick wall

Guys I'm not trying to wind anyone up or cause conflict but even I got confused about the comment "using the remote to permanently change the region code"
I didn't realise at the time this was refering to an alternative/aftermarket dvd system and was concerned the next reply from Russell or another board member would be along the lines of "so using the remote you can change the region code of the factory supplied dvd changer then?" which just to reiterate YOU CAN'T
Hopefully that clarifies things for all

I was looking at one of the flea bay LR / Alpine DVD players myself, but was put off by the NTSC description over PAL, so thanks for the nod that this (NTSC /PAL) setting can easily be changed using the standard remote in the standard menu.
I might also be able to shine some light on the "using the remote to permanently change the region code" comment too.
About a year ago i bought a Sony HD DVD player and needed to change the region code. I have done this before by retro fitting a conversion board on a Samsung 509.
Upon researching this, i discovered that the region code setting of the Sony player could actually be changed by sending it the correct command sequence over its regular infra red input, that is normally used for accessing the screen menu etc. The standard remote could not send this command, and you either needed a specially pre programmed remote to send the command sequence, and i noted some were willing to hire out said equipped remotes, or you could use a PC with a built in infra red port to do it, and the software required was provided as a free download.
For info here is a link to a site detailing this
http://www.auspaytv.com/sony/SONY_DVD.htm
I don't know if the LR / Alpine unit can be changed in the same way or not, but it is possible as so many units use the same control chip set these days, regardless of final branding.

Hi everyone. Sorry for bringing up this old thread but has anyone found a solution to region code unlocking?
A guy that works at Alpine told me they used to have a special DVD which they run in the player and it would automatically set the region code to 0. They disc is damaged somehow so they cannot help anymore.
Has anyone come across such fix?
