Yes, the hard pedal, that's exactly what mine did after the recall work where they just changed the vac pipe & non-return valve bits, I took it back a week later and after a test drive they said - "sorry, yes it needs the servo too", diid the job there and then, said they couldn't let a car out with faulty brakes, didn't seem to bother them the week before
Mine missed out on the recall originally, presumably due to reg number change as Mac and MarkW have noted, mine's on it's 4th number now.Clive

Well, checked to see if any signs of oil in that vacuum pipe. There's nothing....clean as a whistle.
So, I'm at a loss. Perhaps I'll try changing the fluid. I'll do it myself this time rather than trust the dealer.
I assume just standard dot 4 fluid is fine.
While I'm wondering, does anyone know how much a new master cylinder would be? looks a straight forward job to do, so if flushing the fluid doesnt help, then that may be the next task.
thanks

If you pump the brakes does the pedal come back to the top then slowly make it's way towards the floor again, if this is the case and assuming you aren't losing fluid then the master cylinder seals are passing, Change the seals. Club Pie n Pea

I've got exactly that on my D4 but with the engine running. The dealer tells me it's 'normal' having checked it out twice. What to do?

It's not normal, tell them you want a second opinion or an independant inspection, it does depend on rate obviously if it takes half an hour to reach the floor then thats different. But do get a second opinion maybe speak to TFC. Club Pie n Pea

Tried with and without engine running.
Either way, when you pump the brakes, they go hard. The pedal returns to top and then stays there - doesnt budge.
Left a couple of minutes and start pumping again,- same again - pedal stays where it should.

Sounds like you are compressing air then, I would start by having the fluid changed by a proffesional, not necessarily a dealer. By the way the water theory is true to some extent but water is less compressable than oil.Club Pie n Pea

Just as a side note, I drove my other halfs RRS for the first time in a long time yesterday and I couldnt believe the difference in braking. - so much as rest your foot and push with the lightest of touches has your eyeballs almost poping out. I know the RRS is a bit lighter than a D3 but wow...the difference was amazing. That got me wondering as I would have thought given that the two cars share so many common components including braking system why there should be such a difference?
thanks

so.....Completely changed fluid (again) and thoroughly bled brakes....
Still no joy. brakes pedal does exactly the same.
So, looks like a new master cylinder or can you get repair kits and is it an easy job ?
Am I as well to change the servo while I'm at it or are we starting to talk mega bucks by now?
Need to sort this quickly as I cant trust the brakes and my old Audi 80 is protesting at being brought out of retirement \
cheers

Is it worth trying the epb as when pulled up on the move it brings on the brakes this removes the human input and checks the system ? just a thought.

There are a lot of vehicles with oil in the servo outside the recall Vin numbers.
LR know this and are lucky no one has been killed......yet.
If there is enogh oil in the servo it can eventally cause seal failure.
Dealers are told that if they put in a claim for one of these outside of warranty they will pay. They will not make it an offical TSB or recall.
If it is oil in servo/brakeline:
In UK tell VOSA.
Disco3leigh tell DOTARS; this guy is aware of the issue: Ross Pettersson
Email him the details of the incident.

I've had the recall work done on mine and have since experienced brake problems - I get one go at braking hard and then immediately afterwards the pedal just goes to the floor an no servo assistance.
I've just had the dealership confirm there is oil in the servo and they need to replace the servo. I had a chat with a very helpful chap at VOSA who has confirmed that this is the first report they've had on this. Reading around the Disco3 forum, it doesn't look like I'm alone here so worth anyone else experiencing the symptoms fault to contact VOSA - there's a form on line to download, very simple.

Cheers caverD3
I have the D3 booked in on Tuesday for an inspection and hopefully Brake Booster, servo and vaccum pump and pipe change out at Land Rovers expense, I red the recall documents and it is exactly the same fault as described, My VIN number is outside the range LR has assured me ??? I will defiantly keep the Email address handy. Cheers again. I have become an expert at working on my D3 by necessity not want
