EGR Blanking plates - will they effect exhaust emissions?

I've got EGR valve failure on my '55 reg Disco and my local independent landrover garage (Fulton) has said that the fitting of the blanking plates may effect exhaust emissions and therefore may result in an MOT failure.

Does anyone have any experence of MOTs with these plates fitted, how long have you had them, how any MOTs have you been throught and have you had any issues?

Just want to set my mind at ease as I don't think the landrover Independent has done any of these and therefore has very limited experence.... it is cumbria after all!

you can only do it on pre 07 D3's, and yes, mine went through two MOTs with EGR's blanked with no issues at all.
