Alpine roof crack - advice needed urgently

So I come home tonight and SWMBO casually tells me she hit something with the fin and heard a small crack...

The "small"crack is a series of hairline-ish cracks on the alpine roof, starting from the antenna fin outwards/forwards. There is no outer (or inner) cracking of the glass, smooth to the finger on both sides, but the cracks are there... Evil or Very Mad

From looking at it it looks like a windscreen replacement type job, though I suspect much more tricky to do properly and more costly Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Anyone have any idea on costs for a new part (it looks like the whole glass section needs replacing)?

Any wiring/particularities the local monkeys are not likely to know that I should be pointing out on replacement?

Is it reasonably safe to continue using the car at 35+ degrees heat, trying to avoid potholes or even stones in an attempt to contain the crack?

TIA!

I did the same, with the same result. It was my fault but I thought it was a bit harsh to divorce my wife over it so I wouldn't accept the advice of our dear members above. Wink

Here was the bill in Luxembourg:

Antenna: EUR 142.17
Glass roof: EUR 412.11
Fixings: EUR 0.32
Fixing strips: EUR 2.20
Fitting charge: EUR 312.60
VAT: 130.42

Grand total: EUR 999.82

... and that was in November 2007.

The roof is structural, I'm told. You'll need to replace it. Wink

Many thanks chaps Thumbs Up

So far I could only get hold of Nick (TLO), who quoted around 450 for the roof... not too bad, I thought the part alone would have been over 1000.

The irony is the antenna seems intact, though not taken apart yet so can't be sure.

NJF, how long did they have yours in to do the work? Nick confirmed there's no wiring on the roof itself, just the straight-through cabling for the antenna...

Possibly, Nick also suggested it may be covered, trying to dig out the policy as we speak... fingers crossed Thumbs Up
