OK, a man is walking home with his dog at a steady 4mph.
With 6 miles to go he lets the dog off the lead and the dog then runs all the way home at 6 mph.
When the dog gets to the house he immediately turns and runs back to his owner at the same speed, 6mph and upon meeting him it turns and runs home again. It continues to run back and forth at the same speed until the man reaches home.
What distance has the dog run since being let off the lead ?
And waits for all answers which assume the earth has stopped revolving Mentioning no names Trev

9 miles (the man takes one and a half hours to walk 6 miles at 4mph, and a dog running at 6mph for one and a half hours would cover 9 miles in that time.)

9 miles, I think, my brain is starting to hurt. There must be some empirical way to work this out using simple logistical maths but I just wasted half a tree and a litre of ink doing it the old fashioned way. Oh and I've got splinters in my fingers from scratching my head Peter

Yes ...just copy the question and paste it into the Google search bar 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

There you are, NJF. Knew there must be a simple solution. I wish I had waited five minutes for his answer. I'll have to go for a lie down in a dark room now. But as its bed time that fits in nicely with my plans for the rest of the evening. Peter

Another one.
A workman takes 2 hrs to dig a hole. After 1 hr has he dug a whole hole or only 1/2 a hole.

Dig
Nope, after one hour he will have read half the jobpack (used to be a jobsheet, but these days more like a book), contacted the office to let them know he's arrived at site, notified the customer, done the risk assessment, set up the chapter eight, unloaded the mini digger, called for a grab wagon to take away the spoil and deliver some backfill... Long succession of Disco's since 2001...
SIII Lightweight - neglected & rusting. Bulkhead, A panels, vent panel & outriggers now disintegrated - Next years project!
