OK, another one

Given a standard 24 hour clock with an LED display, at what time would the display give the maximum illumination?

Note, 88:88 is not a valid time Wink

Oh I get it, Mac worked it out. 08:08 is the maximum illumination cos of the amount of LED's alight. Thumbs Up

OK, The number 8 has the greatest number of segments (seven). so therefore you need the max number of 8s in the time, which is two.

The next highest number of segments is six and this applies to '0', '6' and '9'

To get a valid time displayed only the zero can appear with the two 8s so the answer is: 08:08 with a total of 26 segments.

All other numbers have less segments.

Wouldn't 11:11 give out the most illumination, you would see more off the green lit background in my LR Whistle

Anybody using excel to list out all possible combinations and calculate the number of illuminated segments? Embarassed
BTW you are supposing that the leader 0 will be shown when the hour is only one digit. On my clock it is not. In this case the answer would ben 20:08 with 24 segments.

regards,

Wiljo
