Air Con Delay

Is it normal for the Air Con to wait about 20 secs to start blowing after starting the car?

Just noticed this lately as it has been warm.

Cheers

yep, basically, the system waits until it can generate cooled air before the fan kicks in at a decent rate which effectively means that it needs to sense a temperature change in the 'flow' and 'return' pipework of the aircon

Croyde ...please work with me here whilst I carry out some research for the greater good of human understanding...and I'm not taking the p*ss either...but was there an anticipation that it should work much faster than this, perhaps even instantly?

basically it does this to avoid the blast of super - heated air that you get from less 'intelligent' systems

... and i'm not talking about DG Wink

More seriously, I think this demonstrates the nervousness people have with new technology, we question the operation and function of almost everything. There are lots of threads around similar "should it do / not do this", in the past, where systems had a mechanical or electromechanical operation that was physically able to be seen, or traced, confidence was a lot higher and expectations were lower. Nowadays, we seek reassurance from people in similar situations to confirm or deny our suspicions. Of course, whatever the item under discussion and observation is, just because lots of us have the same experience doesn't make it correct, we just assume that either a) 'they should all do that' or b) 'they're all broke' the only difference being what we perceive to be the operation we want, not how it was designed to operate.

I asked Croyde the question because I have a 'McDonalds' theory....basically that people are becoming accustomed to having services provided instantly and perhaps becoming irrate if this is not the case.

A bit like going into McDonalds asking for a burger and fries and within 30 seconds you are eating it....this expectation I suspect has been transfered to all aspects of life.

I've found a way around the delay.

If the fan is in auto mode, switch to manual mode (just turn the knob) then back to auto an the fan starts at full blast.

Yeah! I did think that it would blow instantly, like less intelligent systems but now I believe that I have reached a higher plane of understanding and existance.

Cool! but not for 20 secs Laughing

Turn the temperature dial all the way to the blue dots and it will come on immediately.

Hmmm, mine starts coming on as soon as I get the system checks complete bong before even starting the engine! AFAIK, I don't have the HVAC software update yet, so maybe the updated software is more intelligent?
