Is it possible to fit a roof rack or the land rover roof rails to a vehicle which was not fitted with them from new, according to the Salesman it is NOT possible, can't belive some one could produce a vehicle which will not accept a roof rack at some stage. Hope someone can clarify this. Otherwise there's going to be alot of roof boxes etc up for grabs on Ebay

I think you will find the rails can be retro fitted. I have a dealership list and it is on there. I believe it takes about 1 hour. The cross rails can then be fitted by yourself as and when required. Cost I think is about £150.

TDV6 S, Auto owner.
You can have the rails fitted later, as my 05 wasnt ready for collection March 1st with the rails fitted as ordered, so they gave me the car as I wasnt going to accept waiting a few more weeks, and they told me they will dealer fit them when I was ready. Phoned them last week and they have got my car in for 2 days to fit them next week.
Downside: they give you a courtesy car from a pool of, 1 freelander 1 disco or 8 focus's (ford is great) which ever is in at the time.

I have just had my roof rails fitted to my car, which I took delivery of in January. They are definately a dealer-fit option. Sounds like your salesman doesn't know what he's talking about.

Do the rails come with the crossbars, or are the bars extra?

Winger, Cross bars Extra £, have had a look @ the owners info on LR site regarding fitting the rails, it would seem its an easy Job to do. Basically 1. Remove plastic roof trim and shorten,
2. Fit / bolt on roof rails.
3. Fit plastic caps
4. Job done

The rails are pretty easy to install. They lock into place with a key. LR3 HSE

Hi Rob, welcome to DISCO3
A post made last week by Duckworth Land Rover in the for sale section gives the part number of the roof rails as CAB500120PVJ, evidently not just factory fit

Cost me £150 for dealer fit - if your dealer needs a clue (mine did), get them to contact either Merlin (Nottingham) or Marshalls (Bedford)

If your Dealer needs a clue on How To fit the rails, print the Accessory fitting instructions from the LR web site Owner Information and pass on. Even better save your self some £££ arm yourself with a hacksaw (to shorten the roof trim) and a Torq,s bit (size on instructions) and do it your self, took me all of 1/2 hr start to finish. DB
