When I shift into low range the nav screen shows a lock on the transfer case and on the rear diff. Does this mean that my D3 has a rear locking diff? The spare has a black rim and I thought the locking diff package included a full spare.
I purchased it used so I don't know for sure what it's got on it...
Thx,
MTB-)

The screen has both lock icons regardless. Highly unlikely you have got a rear locker.

Is it possible to retrofit the Active Rear Diff? Every Disco3 tested in Australia by the 4WD mags had it, but LR Australia don't carry any in stock, i.e. its a special order! So I bought what I could, ie no Active Read Diff, and am now wishing I had ordered one with it as it really helps in sand and beach driving. Any advice? 2005 D3 TdV6 HSE Buckingham Blue

It's definitely factory fit only.

Thanks Chris, thats what I feared. Oh well, might just wait for the D3 TdV8 to arrive and do a trade-in, with the Active Rear Diff on the options list.
BTW, how has your D3 been going? Have you had any issues?
Cheers

Hi John,
Had my D3 for 13 months now and it's done 27,000km.
It is the best vehicle I've ever owned even though it has had many dealer visits (at least 10) to correct errors/warning messages.
I use it for off-road 4WD trips, camping trips and daily transport. It has never let me down once yet with any mechanical failure although the rear tailgate lock crapped itself fortunately around town and it needed the dealer to break into the back to open the tailgate. If this happened on a 4WD trip we would have been in some real trouble because access to the rear is not possible with the cargo draws filled up.

Chris,
Sounds like you've had some fun. Was it you I reading about who had the suspension troubles? Haven't got ours into the real rough stuff yet, but we aim to do so soon, hence am studying up on tips from this website. However I am very concerned about the engine troubles we are having. Has your TdV6 ever lost engine power for no reason? 2005 D3 TdV6 HSE Buckingham Blue

John,
No it's not me with suspension problems. A few of the others in Oz have had problems. See the Australia/NZ page.
I replied to your question about loss of engine on the Australia/NZ page.

Chris
If your tailgate lock fails you hold the lock & unlock switch down in the cab for about 5 secs and the tailgate will release, you do need another person to open the tail gate at the same time thou. It does work

Ken,
The cable from the solenoid to the lock broke. Nothing was going to open it but cutting a hole in the trim to get to the lock and pull the lever the cable used to attached to.
