Premium Diesel
Basically is it any good?
I have one BP garage that sells it near my daily route, its 102.9ppl vs standard diesel from Shell garage at 94.9 ppl (cheaper than Tesco or Asda oround here). I’d have to improve mpg by 8.5% to break even. Now getting about 25mpg so that would have to go up to about 27.2mpg with the D3 TDV6 auto.
Is anyone actually getting that sort of increase? I’ve read threads where people say it improves engine smoothness & reduces smoke.
www.petrolprices.com now has a search for “premium diesel†and lists Total service station at M4 Cardiff Gate services as having this at 97.9 but I suspect that is ordinary DERV, will have to have a look. Anyone used Total Excellium diesel?
I had to use it the other day and I filled up with a tank full (£84 from memory!!).
I did then notice a big difference in mpg - up from 25 to 29mpg. However, I need to do the test again to make sure it wasn't other factors. I've now driven with four tanks of standard diesel at motorway speeds and getting 25mpg all the time. On my next long motorway trip, I'll buy BP Ultimate again to see if the mpg rises again.Matt

You will see a difference if you normally use the cheaper diesels... supermarkets etc.
If you sue Esso Energy (priced as regular diesel) the difference will not be that much compared to Ultimate.
Not sure the extra pence per ltr is worth it these days. Used to be.
