Mark on front brake disc

Hi all,

Covered 1500 miles in car and noticed today a score mark all round o/s front disc about 1/2 way up the disc. Not noticed any noise to suggest something got stuck in pad and no detriment to brake performance? Should I be concerned?

Thanks

Lee

It depends on the width and depth of the mark, I am guessing it will be quite shallow and will wear off (the rest of the disc will wear down to it) in a few 100/1000 miles.

Hello

Changed my front discs and pads a few thousand miles ago. Replaced with Brembo discs and TRW low dust pads. I've noticed both discs to be scored and the surface very uneven, especially towards the outer edge. The old pads and discs were worn evenly but it feels like these discs are wearing heavily on the outside. Would this be due to a faulty calliper? Seems strange that it's happening on both sides after changing which points me towards something caused by the change....but what? Photos attached

If that were my car I might be checking that the pads were correctly seated in the carrier? And that if there was a specific caliper-sided pad that I had got it the right way around... Unlikely to be identically seized calipers on the front in my experience. Back yes but not front...

Yeah similar both sides. I intend to check them though the way the anti rattle springs fit I didn't think that was likely.

That looks like some hard wear going on there, I would start with a new set of non trw pads, it may be they are low dust as they are as hard as can be?

I agree that's what it looks like but I haven't been hard on the new brakes. Quite a few have fitted the trw pads and have t reported issues that I have seen. Bad job when a normal road pad is so hard it's damaging the discs!

Hi, this may or may not be of any help but a few years ago I changed the front callipers on my MGF to 4 pots and bought some yellow stuff pads which i believe are quite a hard pad, anyway after a trip to Europe of about 2000 miles my discs ended up very much like yours. When I changed the discs I bought drilled grooved discs and mintex pads and all has been ok since. I threw the 2000 mile discs and pads away which when i removed them were quite badly worn Big Cry

took the pads off at the weekend and they seemed to be seated correctly and there was no debris between pad and disc. will continue to monitor. Glad I did it though as had to change a number of swollen wheel nuts.
