Locking Diff

I own a Disco 3 "S" model, so do not have terrain control.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the diff ever is locked when spinning is detected either in full time four wheel drive (hi range) or in low range. I intend to do a lot of sand driving so locking of the diff is important.

The car decides when to lock the diff and when not to. I think the only exception to this is when you're in rock crawl where the centre diff is locked straight away - I'm sure someone will be along to cofirm this?

If you don't have the 4x4 info screen then you won't be able to see if the diff is locked or not. The car is great at deciding when to apply it though

Does the D3 come with a locking rear diff as standard or is it an optional extra like on the RRS? I specd mine with the e-Diff and it does lock upbut only when you are in modes that allow it to, in Rock crawl the centre and rear diff lock up (low range only) in GGS it is open until you spin up a wheel then it locks, in Sand it is open but "preloaded" and locks up quicker than in GGS. In Mud/Ruts it is preloaded and again locks up when 1 wheel spins. The big diffrence in the RRS is the throttle mapping when you change modes with Rock crawl and GGS needing a lot of throttle pressing to get the car to move. in sand it gives you the power quickly a gentle press gives lots of gas Smile Mud and ruts I dont use that much here as it is very sandy and the ground drains very quickly.

Yes it is optional and you need to search hard to find one if you're buying second hand.
