Variable Service Indicator ?

Just got my car back from the Dealer after its first service and updating of the software for 1st to 2nd flat spot, lack of engine power, stalling and heating issues, i must say it feels like a different car, will now have to get used to 1st - 2nd gear change without a flat spot. Very Happy Very Happy 8)

Permagrin bigger than ever now. Mr. Green

New sticker on widscreen stating:- 'This Vehicle is fitted with a variable Service Interval Indicator, Please observe Panel below speedometer for Instructions. Anyone else got one Question Question Confused

Sounds like a case of an over-order of stickers.

The service indicator is there, and works, but not if you want your warranty to be respected.

I don't think they operate in Australia. Anyone in Aus want to tell me I'm wrong? I'd love for it to work, just for a larf.

Our service intervals are 12,000 KILOMETRES! Well, according to my dealer.

Everyone here seems to have a conflicting story.

Service Manual says 12,500 and LR Customer care says 15,000km.

Evil or Very Mad

I'm confused - does this mean that you may need a service before the usual 12000mile / 12 month point

Mine is booked in for 8th June. Now on 44300, so will probably go slightly over the 15k interval.

I saw the "oil service 600 miles" warning on mine at 15k, but never seen it since.

I will keep you posted.

Glymmer man,

You sure about the book saying 12,500 or 12 months?

I know the my Dealer states 12,000km or 6 months. Typically car companies plan a car will travel 25,000km per year hence why I ask the question about "service book says 12,500 or 12 months".

In the UK its 15000 miles or 12 months. I guess Australia is a much harsher environment.

It's primarily due to quality of fuel and oil available apparently. UK fuel is supposedly one of the best (I should blooming hope so considering what we pay for it!) so we get a longer service interval. Even so if you use your vehicle a lot off road or drive it very hard on road it's worth getting at least an oil and filter change done if not a full service more regularly. Mine goes in for a 22,500 mile oil change very soon

My dealer told me that the car decides for itself when it needs servicing based on type of usage etc and that service intervals can be as far apart as 15,000 miles - hence the 'variable service indicator'.

Could be load of old dealer b*****ks of course as when I bought the car, I knew more about it than he did (having downloaded and read the handbook between ordering and collecting the car - what a complete anorak!!)

Your dealer isn't wrong but to ensure you don't invalidate the warranty you need to get it serviced at the specified interval even if the indicator hasn't come on, beforehand if it has

Thanks for the tip - I'll remember that. Done 8700 now so a bit over half way there.

Thought the 'variable service indicator' was a warning light to indicate that the dealer you've just pulled up at / been recovered to is cr@p Confused
