Provided there is no loss of power, a hybrid engine is fine by me. It might help to silence the ill informed "Greens" as well.
Performance wise, the hybrid Lexus RX thingy seems to be o.k from what I've read.
Just imagine how complex the D3 would be with a hybrid engine. Would you own one outside of warranty?

The Ford Territory talked about in the article is the No1 selling SUV here in Australia with over 2000 units sold each month. There have been rumours ever since the release of the Disco 3 diesel engine that it may be used in the Territory as the two engines currently available are both unleaded powerplants.
It was only six months ago the CEO of Ford Australia said there would be no diesel option provided as he considered it to not be a viable option. Good news is the hybrid idea may now open this area up again and if they get it right maybe even the best of both worlds.
Saw the add for the new Lexus sport hybrid here last week and it sounded pretty good. It seems hybrid is being touted as the next big thing for most car manufacturers. Even if it does live up to the hype I would always stay away from the first generation of this new technology.

I've driven the Lexus RX Hybrid. It's very fast indeed. A bit weird putting the keys in the ignition, turning on and nothing happens except the dash lights up. If Lexus had updated the body to something more modern, then I would of probably got one, but as it is, it feels a dated design and offered less than other 4x4's at much less money. The overall fuel economy isn't that great either, but what you do get is amazing performance for no loss of mpg. Matt

As just part of the possible integration of the TDV6 into the Ford Territory, fans of the car will have noted that the same ZF 6 speed auto is now available that is in the Discovery 3. Just ready for all the technology of replacing the old six cylinder with an exciting and proven (now not so) new diesel V6... LeighW
The old girl is on her third engine...
* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)

Sorry my last reply was about the Territory moving towards having the LR engine/gearbox combination but maybe Ford Australia could jump the gun and go straight to the hybrid diesel/whatever combo and place Australia 'on the map'. LeighW

But why would you want diesel, when you could have LPG?
How about touring range? Torque? Power?
No economic benefit (Tom Gorman)?
If time = money and filling the car = time, then certainly less filling = more productive time = more money?
Who wants to spend 4 x 15 minute stops at a fuel station during their 1000km trip? Not to mention finding a reputable filling station on any drive Melbourne/Sydney or Sydney/Brisbane.

I recall reading somewhere the Lexus isn't to be usd off road. I also read a test across the US of the hybrid and the normal version, there was very little difference.
LR with the Land e project seemed to have cottoned on though that an electric motor can give huge initial torque from stand still, but lets hope they waterproof it well DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone
