Replacing CD-400 head unit with 2 DIN Kenwood dvd satnav |
|
I ordered Kenwood DNX-8220BT, ISO connector adapter and Fascia surround kit to replace base stereo. Is there something i should know about connecting and installing it. Is there possible problems, explosions or vehicle not starting issues waiting for me?

Problems - small, mainly how to manipulate the extra wires behind the unit to get it all to fit, patience essential.
Explosions - not expected unless you royally do something bad
Vehicle Not starting - only if somehow you mange to install with a permanet live that is not switchable then drain the battery
Overall not hard to do but you may find you have to modify the fascia surround - also hopefully the unit will come with a double DIN mounting cage, without one you will not be able to install it.
Worth the effort believe me,mine is not as posh as the Kenwood unit but nevertheless an ace upgrade .
N.B As well as the ISO converter lead you may need an aerial adaptor depending on what Kenwood have on the back of the unit, from memory LR base unit has Female FAKRA connection

Simoniz,
Did you relocate the original head unit? I was under the impression that it contained some component(s) required for normal operation of the car, along with that which interpreted the output from the steering wheel buttons. I recall seeing an install which had the HU in the rear side panel to the left of the tail gate. Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

There was talk on the other thread that there is no switched power in wiring, only live, so have to take swithced power connection from the back of aux power socket.. is that right?
Does anyone have wiring diagram of the radioconnection? Just to be sure when connecting new radio that everything goes to the right pins

You will need a permanent live for the ISO connection to work. If I recall I have bridged across terminals 7 & 11 to acheive this.
You can take a live off the back of the ciggie lighter socket but that is a switched supply. If you have a reputable converter lead to convert LR plug to standard ISO then all will be ok and work wiring wise.
Do not have wiring diagram but PM Wiggs he may well be able to help.

Did ordered this iso-harness:
http://www.incarmart.com/ct20lr02/land-rov...ret=search
now when i did read afterwards there is at description that will fit with out any re-wiring, so guess there might be right wiring already to wake up radio when turning ignition on.
Thanks for replies

It's working great! Couldn't ever imagine what difference in sound compared to original unit. Ill post pics later.
Only pac swi-jack remainig to install to get sw remote to work. I took switched power to the unit from the back of cig lighter socket because lr wiring does not include it, only live. So i was getting worry is that cig lighter feed strong enough for new head unit. Also have to take power for swi-jack as it needs switched supply. Fuse has not blown yet but... What does wiser guys think?
