Chaps,
To date, my venerable old D1 has been serviced on the farm, or at a local garage for a 'major' service, and therefore I haven't had to face any terrifying service bills. However, i fully understand that with something as hi tech as the D4, that's not an option.
Having let my heart rule my head on a trip to a local dealer, i have a D4 on order but have heard some real horror stories about servicing costs (£1300 for a 24,000 mile service!) . Is this symptomatic or an exception to the general rule? What can i expect to pay for servicing at a main dealer? 1996 D1 (Legendary workhorse) - now KIA

Wow, never heard of a 24K being that much on a D3, so can't see why a D4 should be more.

I guess if you have the dealer changing all the disks and pads/EPB shoes, plus the cost of a 15/30/45k service, then you could get towards that figure. (bu there is NO 24k service on a D3/D4) perhaps only Age based?)
However, for general servicing, there's no reason why you don't continue in the way you do now. fluids & filters can be done, brakes can be done.
servicing veries between £250 and £450 depending on A or B service and which dealer!
My 45k service inc brake fluid change was about £300ish ISTR.
My 60k service from a different dealer has been quited at £420ish.
I changed all my pads and disks at home before it went in for its MOT two weeks ago. Bodsys Brake Bible

At G.S. Wakefield we were given the option of paying for the first 4 services up front for £1100.00.

Thanks for the reassurance you guys. Particularly bouyed by Bodsy's comments on the ability to self service brakes etc - I assume there is a limit on what you can service yourself though, in that a service these days largely involves plugging it in to a computer!?
How much home D4 servicing is going on out there?
Thanks
CT
PS: the last line nearly went: 'How much 'self servicing' is going on out there?' but it occured to me that might involved tinkering with something other than one's D4! 1996 D1 (Legendary workhorse) - now KIA

I don't think many are doing home service with their D4 yet, but essentially it's the same as the D3 in essence.
if you get error codes, then they can be read and reset by a gizmo from BlackBox Solutions (site sponsor). either just the Fault Code reader or the full monty MSV2. If your doing all home servicing, you may want to consider that as an early investment?
Oils/filters/brakes etc can be done easily enough. Computer or above tools required for reseting the service indicator. Bodsys Brake Bible
