Cruise control overspeed on 3.0 not cutting fuel totally

I've discovered that cruise control doesn't cut fuel totally even when roadspeed is significantly over the set speed, thus contributing to excessive overspeed downhill.

Is this something new for the 3.0 or did/does the 2.7 do the same? Its a real pain having to cancel CC then later resume CC on almost every down-hill freeway section as I invariably allow the vehicle to slow too much then it accelerates again and may need cancelling again on long descents.

Mine appears to hold the speed even on down hill sections when CC is set, even with th tin tent on the back.

My 2007MY has done this since day one. The biggest issue is with the resume speed function, where the cruise control significantly overspeeds into speeding ticket territory before throttling back. As an example, 57mph is not uncommon when resuming from 30 to 50mph.
Condidering the system is fully electronic, it behaves like a shot vacuum operated system. My Volvo fly by wire cruise was perfect, so I know it's possible.

My 3.0 appears to hold very closely to the set speed, up or downhill. Variation generally no more than 2 to 3 kph from what I've seen thus far. I did discover, on running a test with my usually very accurate hand-held gps, that the speedo over-reads by a consistent 4 kph (making say 110 kph on the clock a real 106 kph). Seems to be the same variation all the way from 60 kph (lowest I checked) to 120 kph (highest).

Perhaps we have some good hills on the freeways over here. My remapped D2 with a big I/C & improved breathing had to try pretty hard to keep up 110kph going up some of them.

Fair enough - pretty flat here in the West. Will check it out more closely on the next long road trip.
