Had the vehicle a few days now and here is an update...
This is by far the best Land Rover I have had..... !
Engine- although still very new, you can feel the potential and much better tuned for auto box than the D3. No hesitation, immediate response and very smooth. I can't really fault it at the moment and already getting average fuel consumption figures of 31mpg. I've seen other posts where the comments are that the 3.0 is noisier than the 2.7- I don't agree, the 3.0 is much quieter and far less obtrusive, you need to work it less also.
Electrics- lots of bells and whistles. Have managed to get some faults because starting procedure needs to be done in a systematic and leisurely way- you can't rush it otherwise (as others have said) the ECUs can't keep up so its easy to make the vehicle produce gearbox fault and other warnings if you keep poking at the start button. Easily sorted though, slow down. Everything else works fine (apart from FBH which sets off alarm- see other post) convenience features are good, such as high beam assist, but you could live without them. There are some of these features which I would like to disable myself- auto folding mirrors and auto activation of front and rear heated screens when cold, but I'm sure I'll get used to this. Had windows bouncing (cured by silicone spray). No real massive issues so far.
One thing to say is the headlights are superb- especially if you live in the sticks- high beam is much improved over D3
Interior Trim- fantastic, no other words for it
Exterior build- on the whole good... had to readjust LH bonnet catch as bonnet was slightly on the p and catch fitted slanted. Rear LH wheel arch trim not flush, changed a couple of clips to pull it in. The rest OK and paint finish nice without any patchy spray (better than my D3)
Chassis- On road its brilliant- not pushed it yet, but you can feel that it holds the road better, there is still some body roll compared with a car- compare to a Defender with suspension upgrade and its a world apart- compare it to a Jeep Grand Cherokee and its in a different league. It really is an improvement on D3 and really gives confidence. Offroad? -ain't tried anything yet (it will take me a long time to forget the £46k price tag before it sees brambles- but that will come as the 'shine' wears off)
Transmission- Had it out on sheet ice yesterday- trying to make it slide in the country lanes by us... even with terrain response in normal this was difficult. This is one serious bit of kit- I tried my best to push the driver aids but it copes easily.... its almost sublime and need to be careful that you don't get over confident. Its still new, but no transmission noises or whining- low range seems quieter than my D3 and nice smooth range change
So far no real faults or issues....
Have put a few images on my gallery... more to follow when I have time
