power - topspeed
My manual 2005 TDV6 feels slower than it used to be and can't keep up with my mate's automatic Disco3.
I thought these cars should perform about the same?
I've had an EGR failure in the past, but this feels different.
The dealer can't find anything, there are no fault codes. They offered me to check and clean all the sensors (?), a job that would take a couple of hours.
However, I have not that much faith in this dealership, so would like any tips on what to check first.
Symptoms:
When driving away it feels ok.
It is on inclines in the motorway where it struggles to keep up the speed.
Sometimes I have to change back to 4th to keep up to 110 kph.
Top speed seems lower than it used to be. I tested it at the German Motorway and could hardly get it to 160 kph. Fast enough for me, but I thought a sound Disco3 TDV6 should be able to go faster?
Also fuel economy is about 10% worse than it used to be.
Anyone any tips?
Best regards,
Thomas

Have you been off road (or the previous owner?) coiuld be the intercooler is clogged up (LOL just noticed the link to Holland... ) does the viscous fan seem to be on more than it used to be?Bodsys Brake Bible
It could be a split (leak) or delamination of the intercooler pipe, have you checked those?LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

As far as I could see (and feel), there is no split in the pipe. But I guess, you'd have to take it of to check thoroughly?
Is that easy to do (and put back)?

Thanks for the link, Bodsy. I'll check whether the intercooler is very dirty.

The intercooler looks rather clean.
Are there other symptoms that indicate a leaking intercooler hose/pipe?
For instance excessive smoke (which it doesn't)?

Check the MAF sensor...these fail quite often and will reduce power on the car buy at least 10%

I've read about this in other posts and symptoms could be the same.
However, I ruled that one out because I thought faulty MAF sensor would cause a fault-message (as with a turbo-failure).
There are no warnings on the dash. Just feels more sluggish, top speed is far less than I expected and fuel consumption is worse than before.
However, I will ask the dealer to check the MAF sensor at next service.

Thomas

Problem with MAF sensors is that when they 1st start to fail they do not always show any diagnostic error codes

I had similar symptoms a few years ago, coupled with an increase in fuel consumption.
Turned out to be a disintegrating rear brake pad which was effectively dragging the car back. No fault codes with this sort of problem either. The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom
