Saw my first V8 HSE today. I wonder how many V8's have been sold in the UK so far. Not many I'll bet.

Seen quite a few in London actually - I think that it must be a status symbol thing, sort of "Petrol prices? Doesn't bother me, I've got LOADSAMONEY"

I wonder how long before an LPG conversion is done on a D3 V8. LPG is ridiculously cheap now compared to diesel prices. My D3 TDV6 is costing me a packet to run when compared with my old Disco 2 V8 which was LPG'd.
I just filled up at 430 miles, it cost me £73. I could do 450 miles in my V8 for less than £60 of LPG. I saw LPG at 29.9 pence per litre yesterday at Morrisons supermarket in Hyde, Stockport. That is cheap motoring! At this rate, I'll be trading for a V8 if a good conversion comes around.

They have been threatening to jack up LPG for a while, they even raised the tax on it last year, but only BP and Shell increased their prices for LPG. It is still damn cheap motoring.
I went diesel in anticipation of an lpg price rise, but so far its costing me. My colleague runs a Volvo S60 BiFuel (factory fit LPG), gets 25 mpg at 29 - 39 ppl.

But if you take into account the £6,000 extra on the price of a V8 over a TDV6, plus the LPG conversion cost, you need to do an awful lot of miles to get your money back. Add to that higher depreciationon a V8, and it makes no sense. The way to do it might be to wait a year or two, and then swap your TDV6 for an equivalent model V8, which by then will probably be worth less than a diesel, rather than more when new. Then you can win all ways (unless the tax increases wildly on LPG).

Yes thats what I had in mind. I would not put LPG on a new car, the warranty on the engine is straight out of the window!

I think the government haven’t quite got the freedom to tax LPG as much as they do petrol and diesel, as unlike the latter two, LPG is also used as a domestic fuel for tens, or even hundreds, of thousands of people in the UK with no access to mains gas. Still, I wouldn’t put anything past them…

Back to the thread topic for a moment - I drove a V8 hSE at Eastner last week - very fast in the 'off' at road junctions, otherwise sounds the same inside !!!

I believe you can, but not so much for economy, more for power boosting. I think its a bit like putting NOS in a petrol engine

I understood that the government cannot raise duty on LPG by more than 1p per year, due to EU restrictions (duty on domestic fuel?).
The press have been muttering for a while now that Mr Brown would like to 'harmonise' LPG duty with other vehicle fuels though. What is certain is that it is no longer being promoted by the government as a preferred fuel- they've completely removed the Powershift LPG conversion grants which were previously available.
