No NAV to NAV

I picked up my 2012 SDV6 in November 2012 in Australia.
I did not specify NAV as found with previous factory navigation systems not up to scratch compared to after market units.
At the first service the NAV selection came up between video/audio and the phone buttons on the touch screen. Pressing the button on the dash (NAV) and NAV on the touch screen send the vehicle into "initialsing please wait"....but nothing happens. My dealer has checked it out. The NAV button on the dash has wiring behind it, and they said it should not. The 4x4 function on the touch screen now has a compass appear, but does not work either.
Dealer seems to think that maybe when they built my D4 they must not have had a unit available without sat NAV, so put this one in but deactivated it. They think when they did software updates it somehow partially released it. They cannot remove it from the screen......they gave me one and only option
They said that for $280 they can try and install maps, but no guarantees that it will work.
Now I don't think I could possibly have the only D4 that this has happened to.
Has this happened to anyone else ?
Would be nice if I got a $280 sat NAV, and could then put a reversing camera in, but don't want to risk hard earned cash if it does not work.
The hidden menu does have some info about DVD, sat NAV etc.
Thanks for reading.
Brett....

An interesting topic, because over here in Ireland there a a large number of D4 Utility 5 seat models that have been spec'd with the High Ice which of course gives you the NAV button.....but no navigation actually fitted. They would love to find a way of installing/activating same! (2012MY).

I'd go for it and see if your dealer can install the maps, after all if it doesn't work then there would be no need to part with the $280......

PS How does your time travelling machine work? Rolling with laughter

Still thinking about it....but I will do my $280 if it does not work. They want the money upfront, with no guarantees.

Just thought that maybe another had come across this.

With yours APL, does the switch actually have wiring behind it ?

Mine came with Premium Navigation from the factory, it is a UK Commercial. The 5 seaters I was referring to are a relatively new idea, they arrived late last year and are selling well here. Not sure if they have the wiring but given that the high spec audio has a hard drive in it these days I would suspect that the wiring is indeed present....

If you are dealing with a Land Rover Franchised Dealer then I do not believe that they can legally charge you for trying to install the maps unless they are sure that the job will work, and if they are any good they will be able to find out if the job can work from their tech support knowledge base....

I would further suggest signing up to LR Topix, from where upon entry of your VIN number you will be able to retrieve the official original build specifications for that vehicle, this might assist both you and your dealer in making further progress here.

Hey you guys be carefull Brett is way ahead of the game, Brett can you tell me what the stock market is like in November 2012? what about the price of gold? Very Happy Very Happy

Anyways Brett mine is just a 2011 model, but I'm not sure if the nav or nav issue will stop you fitting a revrsing camera. The problem is to date I have not heard of anyone removing the touch screen unit on a base 2012 model to see what is available to connect to. On the 2010/11 models there is a 6 pin connector that alows for 3 video inputs, the reverse input is then activated in the Car Confifguration File (CCF)

I reckon it's gonna be any day now that one of the resident rocket scientist comes up with an answer for you. Thumbs Up

Kenney and APL,

I was wondering what you two were rabbiting on about....then I noticed I wrote 2012 instead of 2011. Rolling with laughter

Don't think anyone can pick the markets especially with the way the countries in the mediterranean seem to not know how to manage themselves. Thumbs Up

No joy with topix apl. Inputting Vin on topix shows plenty of detail about my D4 though.

Going to tell LR Australia to remove it from the screen, or have them gamble the money, and if it works, I will then pay the $280 but I am not going to shell it out on a maybe.

Will post the outcome.

Hi Brett

Sorry for hijacking your thread, but I seem to remember another thread with the same title somewhere else??? Laughing

I didn't spec the Nav on my D4 (SDV6 SE HiICE -Nav -RevCamera) in part because was informed by the salesman that it is only on road nav no different to regular street Nav. Today in another place someone mentions the Nav has an off-road function, so now I have a couple of questions.
* Does the MY12 Nav have an off road function?
* Does the off road Nav have exportable data-logging?
* Does the off-road Nay accept uploadable raster maps and waypoints?
* Most importantly, can I retrofit the OEM nav to my vehicle?

Hi Guys,
Wondering if there is any updates on this?
I have a MY12 SE with 7 inch screen and ICE upgraded stereo, reversing camera, but no nav according to dealer, bought as a dealer demo. I will check tomorrow if pushing the nav buttons gets me anywhere.
But would love to hear others experience on adding nav after build. It does seem strange that if all the basics are there, a nav unit can't be fitted.

Would love to hear back from people.
Cheers
Christian
