Eggsactly.

There may well be something wrong with the alignment, but the dynamic nature of the adapatives - as you point out - makes the adjustment more multi-dimensional that a simple fixed halogen lamp.

As the vehicle is new, I'd suggest a trip to the dealer to check it out, once the DIY wall analysis is complete. And I certainly wouldn't be amazed if it turns out the vehicle was released to the customer with the alignment off!

I've just caught-up with this thread and it seems that the adaptive lights suffer from the same problem as the non-adaptive bi-xenons where the halogen high beam is out of alignment with the bi-xenon beam.

My vehicle's bi-xenons were adjusted at the dealer's yesterday whereby the lights were switched to high beam shining on a wall and then adjusted down to what the person thought would be a good level for the halogen beams - a real technical solution! The 400 km after-dark drive home was interesting to say the least, with the halogens now lighting-up the tree trunks (they might actually be quite reasonable at ground level), the bi-xenons on full beam a glaring spot just in front of the vehicle and the dipped bi-xenons cutting-off less than 10 metres in front of the vehicle giving me less than 5 metres of lit road.

Time to get the screw-driver out and fix the low-beam stuff-up.

Richard (Thriftwood) or anyone else with this issue,

Has this been 'fixed' by LR or have they acknowledged that there is a problem with the head light alignment which needs attention?

Grateful for any additional information you might have,

My car goes in on 4th May for the dealer to look at it. They have not acknowledged it as an issue yet but to be honest I am not sure they understood what I was trying to tell them. I have a photo in my gallery of the alignment error. If someone could post a picture of a correctly aligned one then I can show them the difference and hopefully they will be able to fix it.
I take it that your car has a similar issue?
I'll let you know what transpires next week.

My garage have taken some pictures of the alignment error and sent them to LR to ask if this is normal.
Given that some folks here seem to have no alignment issues (with their headlights at least Very Happy ) could someone please post a picture of a set of xenons with the halogen infill "correctly" aligned. At least then when I get told "they're all like that sir" I can point to some that are not Smile
TIA
Richard

My light assemblies were replaced yesterday but the new ones are still possum lights.

Maybe there aren't any D4s, only D3s.

A fault in the manufacture or design of the D4 lights. Alignment is done by moving the whole unit so if the relationship between the halogens and the xenons is not exact the lights will never be able to be aligned properly. The only solution is to adjust either the halogens or the xenons to match the other.
LR will be desparately trying to avoid acknowledging this as it will mean the replacement of all D4 xenon lights.

Yep, that's my conclusion too.

I have fitted HID globes with part of the locating tab removed so as to slant the globe in its mounting which has stretched the beam down to a useable height but the top of the beam is still in the trees. I previously tried this with the halogen globes but light intensity was too low to be useful, hence the HID globes. I tried re-aligning the bi-xenon's globe in its mounting but the light pattern was poor so set it back to original. The bi-xenon assembly's aim is what really needs correcting, perhaps with just a washer under each of the top screws, if only they were reasonably accessible.

So is it a fact that the beams can not be adjusted in relation to each other? (as this is what I have been told). Mine looks like this (Xenons - non adaptive):-

You won't be able to spot possums with those they don't look too bad. Very Happy
It looks like some are ok.

I agree, they're not silly high, and in the centre of the pattern all is fine; just stange that you get half dark wedges at the sides!!

I disagree. Those halogen beams wont hit the ground anywhere and are useless. With a bit more distance you will see possums as they are pointing upwards, not parallel to the ground. They already only light the tree trunks way above ground level when up close. Maybe one has to be behind the wheel trying to see in dark roads to appreciate the uselessness of where the halogen light shines.
