Loss of power and lots fo SMoke - only at speed. |

Driving the wifes D3 today, it felt a bit sluggish from the start but I just put it down to hers not being chipped like mine was. It's an 05 TDV6 S Auto with 72k miles and was serviced 6k ago. I felt it was very slow pulling away from traffic lights then on a main road I pulled out to overtake a car doing 55mph and I then noticed that I wasn't really overtaking and a glance in the rear view mirrors showed that I was laying a smoke screen - lots of grey smoke.
This happened everytime I floored it at over 55mph the Car would rev to over 4k RPM but it didn't feel like it was doing anything, the funny thing is that under 55mph and at normal driving pace it is fine. in Town there was no smoke and it seems to be driving normally.
The missus says it has never happened before...... what might it be? 1993 Defender 110 300tdi - many mods

after careful analysis and discussions with a few diesel engine experts, they have reached the conclusion that the issues were caused by me, more accurately they were caused by my driving style. I tend to use the accelerator pedal as it is meant to be used i.e. I push it all the ways to the floor, I use sports mode for overtaking etc, whereas my missus drives like a girl.
Therefore the smoke etc was caused by me clearing out the engine by giving it a good trashing.....
What do the people on here think, does this make sense? 1993 Defender 110 300tdi - many mods

if you were "clearing it out" I would expect the smoke to be accompanied by acceleration still.
try using an additive and see if that clears it, otherwise smoke and sluggish sounds more like a blockage as Nick suggests. end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

The questions are:
a) is driving like this incorrect?
b) does anyone else have the same problem when they put foot?
I ask this, because I have a similar issue and it only corrects itsself when I switch the car off and restart (with no delay)
